Re: Blog: What's the Best Amp for Playing Blues?

Of the gear I have if I were called for a blues gig it would be my Pro Reverb, two TS9's and a delay.

Re: Blog: What's the Best Amp for Playing Blues?

not a very good list.
Most of those amps never made it on a record by a real blues man ;)

Re: Blog: What's the Best Amp for Playing Blues?

The truest bluesman I ever knew didn't have a blues amp or a guitar for that matter.

Re: Blog: What's the Best Amp for Playing Blues?

yoda: "do or do not, but there is no "BEST" amp" :headbang:

Re: Blog: What's the Best Amp for Playing Blues?

I played at a Boston R&B and Blues jam every Sunday back in the day. The house amp was a solid state The Lab Series L5. I heard a lot of great players over the years through that amp, it had tone for days.

You read that in a BB King article.

Re: Blog: What's the Best Amp for Playing Blues?

The best amp for blues is the same best amp for punk: Whatever amp you have.

I immediately thought of that guitar player article
But could not remember which solid state amp they mentioned

I was thinking it was a Roland JC 120
But I believe you are correct

Re: Blog: What's the Best Amp for Playing Blues?

Gary Moore's use of an SLO on the Live Blues/Blues Alive album (1 was the Concert CD, the other the live video but I forget which is which) was what planted the seed in my mind that I needed 1 of those amps!

Re: Blog: What's the Best Amp for Playing Blues?

There are a number of good ones around town. I use Billy Yates, who gets his work out of True Tone in Santa Monica. He really knows his way around those old Fenders. TrueTone is on Santa Monica Blvd. in Santa Monica, and their phone number is 310-393-8232. I bought a total beater Deluxe off of Fleabay, and Billy made it sound like a million bucks.

Re: Blog: What's the Best Amp for Playing Blues?

Crusty's comment made me laugh...I don't really have a great answer as to what makes a great blues amp, but I seem to be happiest when I can open up my Mesa Mark III Coliseum Half-Stack at a gig.

So, since it makes me HAPPY....I guess it's not a good blues amp after all, LOL!!!!

Re: Blog: What's the Best Amp for Playing Blues?

Which is_______?
I'm just being slightly facetious. I really like my amp because its perfect for me. Its loosely based on a JTM. However, i reckon the best blues amp really comes down to what allows each individual player to express his or her self in the way they want the most easily.
