Blonde 63 bandmaster, or Blackface bassman? Purchase is tomorrow!!

I narrowed my choices down already. It's either his blonde bandmaster from 63 or his blackface bassman. I like the blond bandmaster-its way simple, 2 preamp tubes, 2 6l6gc's. The only mod i'd do is get a bias pot installed and put NOS tubes in it. Blackface is nice, but pricey!

The Bassman is a better sounding Amp IMO than the Bandmaster. They are both good Amps though. Tough choice. Price difference might effect my decision.

Hard to go wrong, trust your ears. No way would I have a bias pot installed or do any other mod.

Yep...the Bandmaster might have the most mojo. :saeek: The output transformer is smaller in the Bandmaster...hence the quicker break-up. Bandmasters are not known for being especially ballsy though...I'd be real tempted to do some mods if it was mine. Nothing drastic. Lew

You don't buy a Bandmaster for modern rock, you buy it for blues, jazz and anywhere a warm, rich tone is needed. It's blonde, it has major mojo, and if I had a choice, I'd take it :D

The blackface Bassmans are much more ballsy, but I think Fenders really excel at clean to light breakup applications.

You guys really aren't helping me here :D I am tempted to go back to my roots and get another vintage Fender :)

the blonde amps were the best looking amps Fender ever made

One thing that still knocks me about vintage Fenders is how organic they are. They just "breathe". I've played boutique amps that don't sing as well or sound as rich. Just about every Fender I've played has taken pedals exceptionally well. There's definitely some magic there.

Trust me i'd be caught dead before playing modern rock. I really need a smooth sounding blues amp, and that blonde seems like the ticket....

You'd have to kill me to take my '59 Bandmaster off of me, and I'd haunt you even then.
