Dunlop's 1.0mm blue Tortex pick is the greatest thing ever. See how happy that little tortoise looks!

It's just the right pick for me. It's stiff and heavy enough that you can whack the hell out of the strings, but it's soft enough that you get a nice round attack with just a tiny bit of give. I've probably used hundreds of different picks, but I keep coming back to these, no matter the guitar, amp, strings, or style of music.

Re: Blue Tortex picks.

I use the green Dava flex picks, but I was turned on to these these V picks. I tried the large rounded and pointed picks...they do make you play faster and easier for solo runs...the pick feels effortless, but I'm used to a little flex so I use the V pick on songs that work the best on. I always have problems getting clean single notes on some chord shapes that have jumping around. I used the V pick and bam..it was so much easier! I can relax my right hand more and the plastic glides fast and easy over the strings...but with the pick being the only connection between you and yer guitar, gotta use what feels good for you.

Re: Blue Tortex picks.

Picks a plectrum to me, and vice versa.
As long as it's medium, I don't really care (use the green tortex one for bass though).

Re: Blue Tortex picks.

I personaly don't like them.
I find them as lacking attack and a little bit muddy.
I prefere Jazz III, myself.

I find them lacking in attack, too, and that's why I like them. :naughty:

Re: Blue Tortex picks.

See avatar... only by Tortex, you know.

Re: Blue Tortex picks.

I prefer the orange Tortex myself. It has just the right amount of give for me.

Re: Blue Tortex picks.

I still haven't found the right gauge that works for me, although I find thicker picks make me play a bit better in general. I use the blue ones, green ones, and orange. Never bought yellow cos I hate the colour lol, but I think those might be the perfect ones for me.

The problem I have with particularly thick picks is getting rhythm stuff, that's not palm muting driven, to feel nice and not stiff.

Re: Blue Tortex picks.

never got into picks
like the tactile feeling of finger on string
1/8 in long fingernails
just the proper bite

but of course I like the
finger picking/tapping/banjo rolling/palm slapping/neck wrenching
style of play

My thumb and second finger are my other favorite picks. :1:

Re: Blue Tortex picks.

I got these blue tortex pickups due to the GC sales guy recommending them. They supposedly last longer. Honestly, I like the red Fender California heavy picks better. They seem smoother on the strings, which allow me to pick quicker and more effortlessly. Just my opinion.

Re: Blue Tortex picks.

I used the red .50s for the longest time before changing to those blue puppies. Gotta say, i'm loving them. I couldn't believe how much difference the pick made to the sound, seriously. Changing pick size probably saved me the price of a new pickup.

Next time I get some I'm definitely gonna look for something with a grip on it. I like the shape, I like the thickness, I DON'T like it flying out of my hand during a fast strumming section.

Re: Blue Tortex picks.

The blues are a little too heavy for me. I use the green .88s for guitar. For bass, I like the .73 Dunlop Ultex. To me they feel a lot like the Fender tortoise shell/California clears. Nice pick for bass.

Re: Blue Tortex picks.

I use to play Tortex until I started gigging heavily. I move a lot, so my hands get damp, and I lose grip. I switched to those Dunlop picks with the gator on them. Don't know what they are called. The purple ones. Anyways, that's when I'm not using my nails. They sorta have the same feel of the Tortex, except a little more attack, feel a little sharper, and have better grip and feel.
