i know the harmonica player and drummer but never met the bassist and havent played more than a song or two with the other guys. thinking about what pedals to bring... thoughts? im thinking ill bring a strat type and lp type guitar and a single channel amp with reverb. thinking an overdrive, tremolo, and delay. maybe rotosphere? :D what would you guys bring? if it was a band i had seen a bunch or played with before it would be easier but since im not sure what im getting into (which is kinda fun) id like to be prepared

Re: blues gig tonight with guys i dont know

I like to keep it simple at first: the bare minimum to get me by. With a two channel amp, it's a modulated delay and an OD, but for blues I would be more inclined to use reverb instead of delay.

Hope you have fun!

I would go tele, tweed at breakup (clean up or dirty with knob), TS, Analog Delay, spring reverb.

I know it doesn't help, but it has to be a "depends on which blues" thing. Also, what your role is going to be (I.e. Mainly lead, or mainly rhythm).

For pre-Stevie, I'd typically say single channel amp cranked and then use vol/tone pots, maybe a boost for solos. For a Stevie-on, I think a mid-humped OD (TS or Klon - the latter would be my choice) has to be considered.

As for modulation, for blues I'd go tremolo or univibe.

My cover-all-bases minimalist rig from my current stock would be:

GIbson ES-335 or Les Paul (both of mine have Triple Shots so lots of tones)
BYOC Silver Pony (Klone)
Strymon El Capistan dTape Echo (has a spring reverb too)
Seymour Duncan Shapshifter Trem
Custom Whitney 15W Amp (single channel, AC15-ish tone stack)

That signal path, couple to tone flex in 4-control Gibsons would give me all I need for a first jam.

I find modulation a bit polarizing so I wouldn't bring any on a first date :) maybe undercover in the delay.

Re: blues gig tonight with guys i dont know

Depending on which amp and how loud I'd go;
Boost & Overdrive
Or
Overdrive and light gain OD

(Timmy could do the Boost or light gain, I like some sort of Tube Screamer for leads)

Delay that can be subtle that you know the mix/repeats/time like the back of your hand

Tremolo and Rotosphere

Just because you bring the tremolo and Rotosphere doesn't mean you need to use them. Heck, I'd probably bring a Fuzz in case Red House breaks out! :D

Re: blues gig tonight with guys i dont know

Me? My Lester Traditional, Fender Excelsior and Bohemian Boost. Beer money and a tuner.

Hi jeremy,
Your pedal choice is my basic blues rig. I use an Archer ikon o.d. and tech21 delay and a cheap (joyo) tremolo. Add a good compressor and wah of your choice and you can play nearly any blues

Re: blues gig tonight with guys i dont know

I vote for keeping it simple as well. I have a small travel board I keep for this kind of situation. I would grab a clean boost, a versatile OD and a delay. That's usually all I need really. Maybe throw in a phase or tremolo if you want, and maybe a fuzz of you want more tone options. Recently I'm REALLY digging what a Fuzzface can do by rolling the vol knob, lots of cool tones in there. I use a Plexitone as my main OD, though I usually don't bring an amp, so I have to think the amp I might end up on may not have a good overdrive tone.

Here's the travel board in its current state. I rarely take the wah with me, I was just messing around with some Hendrix'ish tones when I took this pic.

Re: blues gig tonight with guys i dont know

I'd bring my regular rig: Fractal AX8, and be ready for anything. :)

I love this board, very similar to a configuration I used for a baby board. Sub a Wampler for the Carl Martin and a Belle Epoch for the delay.

Love the Belle Epoch! I had it on this board, but it ended up on one of my bigger boards where I can power it at 18v. I'm picking up a Dunlop Echoplex soon, might try it on here but honestly love the CC for its nonintrusive dark tones. It's almost reverb like when you set it subtle which makes it more versatile and perfect for this board.

ha! not with this pa :D

ended up with hamer monaco elite (pg neck, antiquity bridge)->timmy->shape shifter trem (used on exactly two songs)-> vox tb35c1 and it worked great. and this wasnt a jam, this was a paid gig, the usual guy had something come up last minute

Re: blues gig tonight with guys i dont know

Glad o hear it went well!

I've yet to try a Timmy but keep seeing it pop up everywhere. Seems very popular. Is it suppose to emulate something specific, or is it it's own thing?

Re: blues gig tonight with guys i dont know

I have a pedalboard. Preamp, compressor, tuner, wah, OD, phasor, chorus, harmonizer and delay. The Mesa amp I take will cover my distortion (and reverb) needs, moreso than the OD on the board.

Doesn't matter what the gig is...that's the board I take. It's what I KNOW, what I'm comfortable with. They're there...if I want them.

But just because I have it on my board, that doesn't mean I have to step on it.

:)

Hey Jeremey.... long time. Haven't been here much in the last few years. But regarding your gig... I would bring a Chorus to sweeten those clean tones and overdrive to boost your solos and maybe the rotovibe or a wah.

Re: blues gig tonight with guys i dont know

im not really a fan of chorus for the most part although an old ce1 is a nice sound. the closest thing i own is the rotosphere on slow speed which sounds great.

Glad o hear it went well!

i dont know that timmy is based on but its a great feeling musical sounding pedal. i have two i like them so much. the treble and bass controls are reductive so turning clockwise reduces them and fully ccw is flat. also worth while to note the bass control is pre-gain and treble is post gain

Re: blues gig tonight with guys i dont know

It's an original design. From what I understand he designed it to function as an extension of the amp, so approached it differently than the standard 808/SD-1/Rat based pedals.
