Blues Saraceno pickups

Hi, does anyone knows what pickups did Blues use in his Yamaha Plaid guitar, on the Plaid era? I saw a picture of his guitar and the pickups were SD's but they're not the PATB-3 parallel axis trembucker because the magnets are round like the normal pickups. I would really apreciate if someone tells me, I love his tone on the Plaid album. :fingersx:

Re: Blues Saraceno pickups

Not sure what he used, but the PATB-3 is an amazing pickup. I should get another one of those sometime. I really liked the tone of the one I had.

Re: Blues Saraceno pickups

Inside the insert of the Plaid cd Blues thanks and endorses Seymour Duncan. There`s also a pic of him with his plaid Yamaha guitar and you can tell that the pickups have the Seymour Duncan logos on them but they are clearly not PATB-3s. I`m guessing they were 59s but that`s just a guess.

Re: Blues Saraceno pickups

I think he only used the PATB-3 (in the bridge, and a PATB-1 in the neck) on his trem-equipped guitars. I believe he used '59s in his hardtail guitars.

Exactly, I got the Plaid cd last week and when I saw the pics I noticed the pickups were not the PATB-3s
damn I love his tone on that album...

Yep , Akira can hang with the best of them. I wish I could find out the gear and pickups he was using around Thunder In The East era.

They can't be '59s if they have the logo on them, can they? Or have they come with the logo earlier on or would he have gone the custom route to get ones with it?

Re: Blues Saraceno pickups

From Mr. Saraceno himself:

Hey Evan,
In that scotch tape plaid guitar I believe that they were 59's in it (two bridge pickups as per usual)....Those were the pre cursor to the Trembuckers.... The sound improved drastically once the patb's came along.... Helped out the tremolo guitars a bunch ... kinda gives them a little more mids that the tremolo removes..... I have always just use two bridge trembuckers even though the neck pickup spacing is a little wider ... They just match up well to my ears.... Hope this helps.
Viva la Seymour Duncan!!!!

Thanks Blues!

Re: Blues Saraceno pickups

Thats interesting that PATB's were a "drastic" improvement. I may need to try some of those.

Re: Blues Saraceno pickups

I may have to try scoring a second Blues Trembucker to try it out in the neck position along with the bridge Blues Trembucker I have!

Wow! thanks a lot , that really helped me a lot. I'm sory but I don't know much about this pickup is there only one '59? because in the pickup section it says there is the SH-1 '59 and the TB591b. Wich one these is Blues talking about?

Re: Blues Saraceno pickups

I haven't tried the PATB-3, but I have the Original Parallel Axis TB (TB-2?) and it absolutely smokes in my floyd equiped superstrat. I think of it as the "Custom Custom" of the PATB series, with the PATB-3 being the 59', and the "Distortion Trembucker" being, well, the Distortion!

Awsome pickups....I just wish they came in double creme!

Well ,i can't say that PATB2 is similar to distortion. They are very different in nature. The bite ,harmonic structure ,midd voicing ,bottom ,punch. All different.
PATB suits to the Custom Custom i think .

Re: Blues Saraceno pickups

The '59s Blues is talking about, are they the SH-1 '59 or the TB591b?
And what;s the difference between the 4-Conductor model and the original one?
