Blues Saraceno Trembucker?

My brother-in-law is asking me for suggestions for a match for a 59 neck in a Les Paul.

The C5 looks a little too hot, but the Blues Saraceno Trembucker looks just right. However, Harmony Central reviews say it's really, really bassy.

Anybody have any experience with it?

i have one, its not in a les paul but i dont find it overly bassy. less bottom end than the c5

I had it in a LP for a while. It's very nice, though a bit too compressed for my ears.

This pickup is great in a strat or shredder axe. Gives it a LP vibe plus even more. No, it is not overally bassy. If he does not have a problem with the bass of the 59 neck, he will not have a problem with this for sure.

I found it to be too bassy in a 24 3/4" scale shredder guitar with a Floyd that I put one in once. That guitar had a mahogany body too. Between the short scale and the mahogany body, I think it didn't need a Trembucker pickup to restore the low end lost to the Floyd.

A B chord at the 7th fret would always sound boomy.

I have two Blues TRembuckers in Floyd Rose equipped guitars with 25 1/2" scales and ash or alder bodies. It sounds great there. The pickup was designed to make often-thin-sounding Floyd equipped bolt on guitars sound like vintage Les Pauls, so I'm sure the pickup does have a somewhat beefed up lower midrange and bass. Obviously your Les Paul does not need that compensation to sound like what it already is.

But you might get more of a good thing. Who knows?

While the PA design does play a role in the pickup's tone, I have a similar pickup in my Les Paul Studio... it was a 59 trembucker rewound to the PATB-3 specs. My review can be found here. That's as much as i can help out. The pickup is still in the guitar.
