Hi
Would anyone know what Seymour Duncan pickups were used in his guitar at the 94 Hollywood rock in Rio?this is a Yamaha white/green plaid with yellow (I think)pickups.i know they were not his signature axis parallel pickups.....

Also what year was his signature pickups introduced to the Seymour Duncan line?

Many thanks

Re: Blues Saraceno

I read they were a custom Yamaha/DiMarzio set, but I have no idea how reliable that information is and can’t find more detailed information. Maybe ask DiMarzio?

There’s a little Duncan history on the site. (The timeline doesn’t load on my phone right now , but I’ve seen it on my computer before. Hope it still works.)

Timeline doesn’t work on any device ......but thanks for the help

Re: Blues Saraceno

Found this on Reverb but the pickups are not yellow (https://reverb.com/ca/item/4920391-...melon-plaid-blues-saraceno-signed?locale=fr):
This is a RARE 1993 Yamaha RGZ820R designed by Blues Saraceno. It has a Watermelon Plaid finish over a Gloss Black back. The guitar was signed at the factory in October 1992 by Blues Saraceno, 1 of 30 he signed that day. The signature was then protected by a clear plastic overlay...

Basswood body
Maple neck - Rosewood fretboard w/green markers
22 jumbo frets - 25.5" scale
Yamaha TRS-Pro low profile Floyd Rose w/ locking nut
Gotoh sealed tuners
2 custom Yamaha/DiMarzio humbuckers
3-way switch, Volume control
Watermelon Plaid over Gloss Black finish
Black hardware
S/N: 3J30059

Looks like Blues's guitar but with black pickups:

Dude! I love Blues'playing AND tone! Big Fat PAF tone! Love that dude, has he put out an album recently??

Re: Blues Saraceno

I was really looking at his signature pickup for awhile, but was curious if it is too dark ? I bet it sounds great in a floyd guitar. how does it compare to a 59 or a Custom 5?

Re: Blues Saraceno

He's been doing americana stuff lately. Still a bit flashier guitar than usual for the genre, but fits the song.

As far as pickups, I know I've heard his guitars pre-Parallel Axis on a couple of his early albums, but last I heard he still says if it has a Floyd, he drops a PATB-3 (and PATB-1n) in there.

The PATB-3 is not too dark. It's like a hotter '59 that didn't lose the high end. More mids than a Custom 5. Great sustain, terrific harmonics and smooth high end and presence. Ridiculously dynamic. Paralel Axis have an exaggerated tubey response that is a delight to play, though may take some adapting to. I think a lot of people are missing out on something unique by not trying them.

There's a lot of people who like them in non-Floyd guitars. I'm planning to put a PATB-1b in a strat clone with a 2-post non-locking vibrato.

Re: Blues Saraceno

He played PAF Pros originally, prior to his Duncan PATB-3

The Yamaha RGZ series had custom DiMarzios, which I believe were a hotter version of the PAF Pro, but I don't know much about them. Pretty sure the limited production RGZ models only came with black pickups, not yellow.

Re: Blues Saraceno

Don't really like green guitars and don't really like colored humbuckers, but this guitar is having a certain "I don't know why" that I like a lot. The reverse headstock with yellow logo is also well done.
Georgous guitar!!!

Re: Blues Saraceno

i dont know if they ever did a full paint signature guitar like that, it looks badass. i love the patb3 and dont use it in floyd guitars, its just a great pup
