Bluesbreaker anyone?

Alright, so I just got all this wonderful gear to replace my stolen stuff..and I'm already gassing for something else!!! I've gotta get away from these forums. Anyway...does anyone have any information on the Marshall Bluesbreakers? I know someone around here had one...and I'm really interested in them and would really like to find a reissue at a decent price...someone got any information?

I would recommend my old set up.....earlier JTM45 RI and a 2x12 closed back cab with some form of G12M or H like speaker....or a mix of the two. I happened to use a 70's Bandmaster cab. It sounded incredible.

I paid 700€ for mine used. It's the older version with the narrower cab.

You might want to consider a Bassman. The Bluesbreaker amp (original) was based on a Bassman circuit. I believe the Bassmans will be less money and will sound very similar. The major difference in sound will be the Bassman has 4 10" speakers and the Marshall has 2 12's. I'm not sure which speaker is in the RI Bassman..... it may be a Jensen

Marshall made a 4x10 version of the Bluesbreaker back in the day. I saw a mint one at the Orlando guitar show a few years back. I guess it just never made it to the reissue run because Clapton used the 2x12.

There were a VERY SMALL handfull of 4x12 Bluesbreakers back in the day. If you are looking for a BB reissue go for it but make sure you get a later one...the first few years have slightly smaller cabs and a set of KT66's WILL NOT FIT...and IMO you have to have a set of KT66's for that amp to sound right. Another option woudl be a Fender Bassbreaker...middle 90's 59 reissue Bassman chassis in a 2x12 cab...looks great, same guts as the Bassman reissue but with 2 12 inch Vintage 30's and sounds GREAT!

good point, Christian. When I had my 94 MOL JTM45, i remember being told that not only were KT66's only available in the hideously expensive NOS variety, but you also couldn't install or remove them without removing the chassis. Tight fit and possible heat issues.

And I also think Fender is (or was) marketing a 212 Bassman Re-Issue. Bluesbreakers are very cool, so take a look at the new 18-watt combo, too.

If you have to have tremolo, then I'm out. But, if you want a 2x12 big ass combo with a JTM45 (bluesbreaker) running it, then that's up my alley.

I don't really care for how they mount the chassis to the back panel though. Seems like not-too-sturdy a way to build an amp long term. I'd rather try to find a chassis that would sit like a tweed chassis where the tubes hang down, not sideways like the BB.

I had a '98 Marshall BB reissue for a little bit.

The trem sucked to the point it was useless & it was noisy as hell...

When playing it, it was very nice, but just annoyingly loud & hissy.

They weigh a TON....

The older cabs were too narrow for KT66s, but the newer ones were made bigger & although still tight, KT66s fit. The front valance gets hot, so I would guess in long term, the tolex will start to bubble.

They look ultra cool, but I prefer the head/cab option. The Edana was a fantastic replacement for the crap Marshall....IMHO :D

BTW Scott....the chassis mounts are odd & that was something else I didn't care for. It bolts to a back panel, which then bolts to the cab.

Anytime you wanna get to the tubes, you need to do a lot of removing & to do that, you need to lay it down on it's front/face....which can kinda screw up the appearance if you aren't careful:bigthumb:

This is an intriguing proposition! ....the tremolo really isn't absolutely necessary because I have the Line 6 MM4 and I actually compared it's tremolo to a real 1965 Deluxe Reverb (what the opti-tremolo is designed after) and it really is just that good!.....as long as I can get the JTM45 in a 2x12 combo with the classic marshall appointments (minus the logo of course, substituting a nice shiny Celtic Amps logo)......

This has definitely gotten my interests peaked..it's a bit more than I was looking to spend as I've seen some of the reissues go for >$900 on ebay....but, it's worth a shot I imagine...and I do want one of Scott's amps, and his Edana is definitely getting KILLER reviews....

that is a great looking cab and would definitely be worth looking at! Now all I gotta do is get an Edana to put inside it! :)
