Bluesmen! Name your influences!

O.K., there are the obvious ones; Clapton, Hendrix, Duane Allman, SRV...
But go a little deeper, a little farther back.
Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, Willie Dixon...
And who else?

For me it's Buddy Guy, Elmore James, T-Bone Walker, Sonny Boy Williamson (the second one, aka Rice Miller). There are others, but those are the main ones.

What about you?
Who has had the greatest influence on your blues playing style?

Re: Bluesmen! Name your influences!

Well...

Johnny Winter, SRV, Clapton, and hendrix, tho not really straight blues...

Diggin further...

BB King, Buddy Guy, Albert Collins, Robert Johnson, Otis Rush...

Re: Bluesmen! Name your influences!

Mine are pretty much "non-traditional" blues influences: Robben Ford, Larry Carlton, Hendrix, Clapton, Page, Moore, BB King, SRV, Scofield, Beck,.....

All of these player have played (or are playing) the blues at a certain point and I listened to those. The blues "nazi's" will not approve, but they don't approve of anything anyway....

Jimmy Rogers and Lightnin' Hopkins have always been major influences for me.

I love this one... The Blues Brothers played R&B not blues....

Give me Buddy Guy, T-Bone Walker, SRV, any-of-the Houston Blues Society Members anyday...

I don't suppose you'd mind explaining that little remark, would you?

Re: Bluesmen! Name your influences!

I am just referring to a limited group of people who believe that they are the sole defenders of the "true" blues values and, for some reason, believe that they have the right to impose their personal tastes and values upon other people.

I consider that to be at the opposite of "open-minded" and hence my remark.

No offence nor flame intended.

Re: Bluesmen! Name your influences!

I've got a lot of influences (Page, Clapton, SRV, Derek Trucks, etc.), but my biggest blues influence is the one and only Mr. Freddie King.
