BMP-1 and Dimarzio multipole 5 way switch

Hey guys, just received my bmp1 today. Tried to install it with the switch that cane in my schecter c1 classic which I believe is a dimarzio 5 way multipole switch. It has two seperates sets of connectors. I tried that. Got sound but was an extremely weak signal. So I took An old les paul style 3 way and installed it cause I was eager to hear it everything works except the tone pot. When I turn it down its just cutting the gain until there's no signal. Id like to wire it to the guitars original switch but don't know how. I don't care about coil splitting id just like to make it bridge/both/both/both/neck. And what could be wrong with the tone pot?

Thats what the switch looks like.

Re: BMP-1 and Dimarzio multipole 5 way switch

Two questions for you novacekn:
First, you are using 25k pots with the BMP-1, correct? They are lower resistance pots, 25k Ohms as opposed to the 250k - 500k found with most passive magnetic pickups. The preamp depends on those low resistance pots, if you're using pots that have twenty times more resistance than the preamp is expecting, I think that might kill your gain.

Second, It sounds like you have your tone pot wired like a second volume pot. Essentially you have a volume control for your volume control.

"Yo we heard you like volume pots, so we put a volume pot after your volume pot." = less gain. My reference was poorly executed, I think it gets the point across.

Check the lugs again and all the connections and test it again.

As for the switch, perhaps someone else can chime in, I'm not quite sure how the BMP-1 works when combined with anything other than an LP-style 3-way. 5 way with just 2 humbuckers I would think implies that you have some coil splits in there. And if you are splitting, you are shorting one coil to ground, which essentially turns your humbucker into a single coil and the BMP-1 will not work as intended from what I read a few months ago when it came out.

So check your tone pot wiring, and make sure your pots are all 25k pots. That should get you going for now. Let me know how that goes.

Thanks for the reply goptaron. I appreciate it. I resolved the issues. Bought a 3 way switch wired it all up accordingly. Everything works great now and I couldn't be happier with the product. I have seymour duncans, sh2 and sh4, in my guitar loved the time. The preamp just makes them sound amazing. The bmp is a fantastic product.
