Bob Bradshaw pedalboard tutorial

Re: Bob Bradshaw pedalboard tutorial

A buddy of mine had one of his switching systems 15-20 years ago. It was freakin awesome!!

Re: Bob Bradshaw pedalboard tutorial

I like the tiered design it makes it easier to get at everything.

Re: Bob Bradshaw pedalboard tutorial

Wow, thanks for posting that. I bookmarked it.

Bradshaw is definitely the #1 guru when it comes to wiring boards, racks, and switching systems. I can't imagine what it cost to get one of his custom systems built around all your FX.

Now, he's got me thinking about Eventide products. I haven't even thought about them in awhile.

Re: Bob Bradshaw pedalboard tutorial

I'm just wondering why Bob Bradshaw would allow his name to even be spoken in the same sentence as Digitech? To prove my point, go to the 10th page and see that the peice of gear causing hum in his beautiful creation was a Digitech tuner! Swapped it out for a Korg - problem solved.

Re: Bob Bradshaw pedalboard tutorial

didnt he say he really dug the hardwire units?

but anyways, that is a really awesome article. ive read it a few times and i still dont think ive got everything.

Re: Bob Bradshaw pedalboard tutorial

I would never have a pedalboard with that much stuff on it but that is really good info from what I've read so far. Having that much stuff on the floor makes me feel like I need tap shoes on my feet....lol.

Thats the beautiful thing about a Bradshaw system...once you get it built and then spend the time to set it all up there's no tap dancing...you have presets and the switcher does all the tap dancing for you.

It's quite a nice set up but it does cost a pretty penny...

Re: Bob Bradshaw pedalboard tutorial

Between Bradshaw and Dave Friedman, I have pedalboard/rack overload. :D

Very true. Different configurations at the press of a button. Still, to me that's an insane rig. I couldn't use something like that. It'd take up half the space I have to stand in on most stages we play on and wouldn't fit on half those. For a touring pro, I can see where a system like that is extremely beneficial.

Re: Bob Bradshaw pedalboard tutorial

I read it and felt stupid...

then i read comments on it...and i don't feel stupid anymore. I just realized that we're all just slightly less knowed...

Well, the guys been building "pro" level guitar rigs for 30 years... of course he's gonna know a bit more then the average bear!

Still...

I finally got around to reading the whole thing a little while ago & a good bit of the article is solely about the CAE audio switcher & matching pedal controller.

What I found so great was the really basic stuff that applies to every board...

Selecting effects & the order... layout... power supplies, bundling & organizing all the cable & that sort of thing.

The one thing that's really driven home is all the pre-planning that goes into a rig like that. Not a single piece is just thrown together... its all thought out before he clips a single cable.

Re: Bob Bradshaw pedalboard tutorial

i liked the way he incorporated midi so as to be able to change patches on the eventide units as well as just switch them in and out ... very cool the way he spearated the mono chain from the stereo chain

i had to skim it (and it was hard to read with dark text on a dark background) so i am not sure if he covered this .. but is that rig for a 4-cable method? or for W-D-W? or either?

and yeah, i think he overachieved, but i got the sense it was a demonstration / proof-of-concept project more than anything

From what I gathered is the mono (drive pedals) set up was before the amp and the stereo section you could either use before the amp (Hi-Z) or in a loop (Line Level).
