Bogner Alchemist in action

Re: Bogner Alchemist in action

I'm really interested to hear this amp, especially as I really like the 6l6 Shiva, which is the closest equivalent in the US Bogner range.

Reinhold has great ears. If he's managed to get Line 6 to supply decent transformers he'll have a winner.

Re: Bogner Alchemist in action

Sounded really good and versatile to me, but how heavy does it get??

Was that as heavy as it gets on the video

Re: Bogner Alchemist in action

If it gets a good brown sound, that works for me! I got my ultra plus for higher gain!

Re: Bogner Alchemist in action

A vision of beauty just jumped into my mind. Probably not what I'd haul around without roadies and a truck, but....a nice thought for rehearsal room backline.

XTC metalfront head....Alchemist gray grill.
Jubilee straight cab......Jubilee slant cab. Both with Vin 30/G75T crisscross pattern.

Pedalboard. Fulltone Clyde Deluxe, Dunlop Jimi Fuzz, Klon, Duncan Shape Shifer, ADA Flange, Fulltone Choralflange, and L6 DDL-4 delay.

One thing I'd like to do for cabs would be 2 Bogner Alchemist 2-12 cabs with the silver cloth. I really want to try those reissue Celestion 65's too.

Humm, was considering a JSX combo, guess I'll have to wait for this to come out.

I also dislike that effects other then maybe reverb are on the unit, but as long as you can remove from the chain and/or actually edit then easily I guess it isn't a problem.

JSX = different kind of amp than this... different style. Worth waiting for to check out.

IIRC Andy wasn't even using the effects on the Alchemist that night, he was getting all his effects from his M13 pedalboard.

I'm pretty stoked that reverb AND delay are on the amp. My 'minimum' rig for playing out is guitar, amp, and delay pedal with the amp's footswitch. I wouldn't even need a delay pedal with this!

Re: Bogner Alchemist in action

There's a band I just started producing and the guitar player just bought a JSX. Nice amp, but apples to oranges to the Alchemist!

Brandan, I was using the effects on the Bogner as well in a few spots. I actually used the reverb more on the Alchemist than the M13, except where I wante more of a verb effect lke the Octo verb. WHen I wanted a very slight delay and not bone dry used the delay on the Alchemist just for feel and when I wanted more prominent I kicked it over to the M13. For Chime I rely on a lot of modulation fx, but if I didn't the amp would surely be enough for verb and delay for a simplier setup!

Re: Bogner Alchemist in action

There's a happenin' regular Blues jam that happens in Reseda here in the LA area. I think it's at a place caled David's Den. We'll probably be taking the Alchemist out to that the week of Oct 6th. It's either a Mon or Wed. I'll check and post for any locals wanting to go hear it.

Re: Bogner Alchemist in action

Different, you mean they way it's voiced or the gain or both?

I'll tell you what I like: I like the crunch channel on the JSX for example. I also like the 2nd channel on the 5150 III.

Was thinking maybe the Alchemist was more in those range of tones, then the high gain channels on either of those amps, just as an example.

Re: Bogner Alchemist in action

I've only heard the JSX in lead mode live really and not heard a 5150 III in person really. But compared to the JSX what I have heard, it's different in voicing and gain structure I think. I'd really need to play them side by side to define it better for you.

Re: Bogner Alchemist in action

I've already got plans to kustomize, at least visually, the head and 4 12 cab...:cool2:

Re: Bogner Alchemist in action

SO.....playing devil's advocate here:

What's the difference between the Alchemist & running a POD Live thru your XTC or Shiva or Metropolis or what have you ?

Joneser, you've got a few killer amps. What's the appeal of this one to you ?

Being able to get the same killer tone without dragging your killer amp out & about ?

I guess what I'm saying is, what's the appeal of this amp over any other amp out there? Low priced Bogner ????

Maybe I don't understand your point, but I think you have amps confused. This isn't the modeler Line6 Spidervalve. This is a full tube "inexpensive" Bogner amp. It isn't modeling, it is a straight up rock amp with a couple built in effect. But maybe you mean, why would anyone want this amp that already has sweet amps and could use the POD for effects, not sure.

Re: Bogner Alchemist in action

Yeah, like Gearjoneser & B2D.....they already have Bogners but are drooling over this one.

I would imagine the Bogners they have are way better made than this one....

If it's an equal tone for less, plus you don't have to drag your "GOOD" amp around, I guess I can see the appeal.

And yeah, I would imagine the built in FX are about the same as the POD....

blah blah blah

It seems like a cool amp, don't get me wrong....I just don't get the "drool factor" .

Maybe I need to stroll into the local Best Buy w/LP in hand & treat them all to a little "Snortin' Whiskey" first thing in the morning !!!! :beerchug:

Re: Bogner Alchemist in action

The Alchemist in my opinion doesn't sound anything like any other Bogner amp. Just like why some folks buy a Fender Bassman and then get a Fender Champ too. Different tool for the job...

Re: Bogner Alchemist in action

I'll buy that !

I'd still like to trty one out.....the clips sound good & I like your band :D
