Bogner Alchmist or VOx Handwire

Hi - guys --

I play rock and looking at these 2 amp

How does the amp react to "Brits" voice pedal - xtoic BB or Blackstar .
Will it retain the original amp voicing or the pedal voicing will take over the tone and voicing.

First, the Bogner Alchemist has enough gain options and a "rock tone" right out of the box. The Vox handwired AC-30 is a loud glassy EL-84 amp, better suited to cleans and light OD.

Both pedals will impart their tone on the 2 amps, but they'll probably get you the sound your looking for on an amp that already has it's own gain knob. The clean channel on the Alchemist is really good too.....even more versatile than the Vox.

I like the AC-30 for it's classic tone, but your post leads me to believe you'd like the Alchemist more.

the price of the alchemist is going for USD 850 brand new while the Vox handwire with greenback USD950 and blue USD1200

Not sure what you're trying to say here.

Alchemist is a wonderful sounding amp...clean, crunch, higher gain. Takes pedals very well, but the built-in crunch/gain is so good pedals aren't needed for that.

sorry for my bad English.
The pricing for all AMp seem rather close.
Which will be an important factor as i have 2 children and a dog to feed.
So trying to make the best out of my money..


Saw on the Youtube review on the Alchmist - the amp is great however, it seem muffer something holding back the amp.
It like a blanket covering those speaker.

As for the Vox Ac 15 Handwire - i like it cause it simple (plug and ply) and simplicity usually sound great.
Hook up a few pedal it will sound awesome...

Hard to decided between the 2 ------

If you wanted the best for your money you should buy a used Dr. Z or whatever (even a Bogner). The Bogner Alchemist 2x12 sounds really great. It is very Bogner sounding, and just a good sounding hi-gain amp channel switching amp. It's obviously not pure adulterated tube, but you knew that right? I wouldn't pay too much attention to the reviews. A lot of people write things online before they figure out that they made a mistake in operating their thing. They never go back and tell the internet they messed up.

the two amps you're comparing are extremely different from eachother

kind of like asking if you want pizza or tacos for dinner

it depends on what you're in the mood for

I haven't experienced the blanket-over-the-speaker sound with my Alchemist. This is a wonderful sounding amp...very rich lows and mids and jangly highs. I can't stop playing it because it is so full of ecstacy.

I used to really love the Vox AC15 (still do) much more than the AC30 sound. But the Alchemist has so much more than the AC15 it isn't even funny. And way more versatile.

I have a Bogner Shiva and a Vox AC15 so I can help you out with this. The Alchemist will be louder, stay cleaner longer and you'll have killer crunch and lead tones on tap. The AC-15 is a much simpler amp. If you're looking for the Vox chime, the Bogner isn't going to do it (the Alchemist has good cleans, but they're just different). You have to like pedals through the AC-15 because (at least on mine) it's really difficult to get it to give you any decent level of gain without a stompbox. As far as clarity goes, I feel there is a bit of tradeoff between a single channel design like the Vox and a channel switcher like the Bogner. The Vox will let you hear everything crystal clear (whether you like it or not), the Bogner is detailed, but it's a little bit more forgiving than the Vox. The Vox has a quicker response, whereas the Bogner stuff has a sag inherent to their designs. Truth be told, I find Bogners a lot of fun to play through, but I can see why some folks don't like them.

All in all, as mentioned above, they're very different amps so you'll just have to read my post and pick apart what qualities it is that you're looking for.
