Bogner Ecstasy Blue Demo

Re: Bogner Ecstasy Blue Demo

Thanks GJ.

And... I am thinking just like you. My to die for pedal into my DIY plexi (68 preamp specs with a plate voltage of 390V) is a PaulC Timmy. It is transparent, and makes the amp work. And when it comes to more gainey stuff Zendrive and Xotic Andy Timmons' BB are the ones I really liked.

But then again... this (the one of the demo) is a completely different approach. The whole clean amp and dirt pedal thing is nice, but still I strictly prefer having a good amp and use some transparent pedal to make the amp work...

Proof that everybody hears things differently. I had a BB Preamp years ago and didn't like it very much due to the graininess of the clipping and the oversaturation of the signal; I wouldn't really call it very transparent.

The Bogner Blue pedal is nice in that the way it reacts to your playing and the way that the signal compresses and clips it sounds like a good overdriven amplifier. That's not to say it doesn't impart it's own color, but I feel like it really reacts to what kind of amp and guitar you use with it. My biggest criticisms of it are a) the boost channel (I don't mind the volume boost even with it turned down, but I wish the additional gain could be dialed down further than the small trimpot allows) and b) even with all the different EQ options I still feel the tone suffers big time if you don't have something like an American sounding clean platform like a Fender to use it with. For chugga chugga rock guys, I can understand the appeal of the red. I did find the blue could do that with the boost on and the boost gain up half way, but I think due to the open nature of the blue's voicing it's not going to be as smooth as the red.

I do really like the EQ shaping on the pedal though. It's nice to put it on B1 and blue to get some rock going on at lower volumes and then when you start cranking a good Fender amp, you can set it for plexi and N and it just molds well with a midscooped amp without sounding like your traditional distortion pedal.

I'm still going back and forth as to whether I want to sell my tweed (because it does sound good), but the Vibrolux and the Blue are infinitely more usable at low volumes.

Cool...

FYI, I am not calling the BB a transparent pedal... It has serious gainey clipping... Even when the gain is quite low that clipping is there. I am talking about PaulC's Timmy as the transparent pedal and all... Still I love Andy Timmons BB and BB+ (I have to confess that I do not like the regular BB that much, but then again both the BB+ and Andy Timmons BB are more gainey and have more compression... SO I guess you would not like them anyways.)

Thanks for your all equipment. This is very valuable post. I want to say everyone to read the post again and again.

Re: Bogner Ecstasy Blue Demo

been looking at all the utoob vids and yours and cant decide if I like the red or blue pedal better.?

Re: Bogner Ecstasy Blue Demo

:)

Sorry to confuse you...

I myself prefer the blue over the red, if obliged to make a choice... Yet, I kinda like the AMP11 and the Xotic BB+ more than them two...

Re: Bogner Ecstasy Blue Demo

what makes you prefer the blue? If my ears arent deceiving me, is the red the more aggressive of the two?

Re: Bogner Ecstasy Blue Demo

Dr.b the blue sounded much better in your new vids, that the amp 11 sounded more like a pedal on the vids. BloodRose if you want more VH 80's gain get the red or if you like lower gain classic rock get the blue, I have both so I can cover a lot. As said b4 a 6l6 higher head room fender with bring the pedals out more at low or higher volumes nicely!
