THREE of them? Man. I know people that would donate a kidney just for one.

Re: bogner fish preamp

lol.. no kidding. I recognize about 20% of that, and I don't even want to think what money he has tied up in it.

They are all just preamps, effects and power amps....I hope he also has some real studio gear as well.

Re: bogner fish preamp

Sheesh, how on earth does he find the time to tweak each piece of gear?

Re: bogner fish preamp

thanks guys. someone also mentioned the hafler triple giant but i couldnt find anything on that or the bugera. idea for a Mr. Duncan??? :scratchch

The bugera comment was sarcasm. They copy reputable amp designs, make them for as cheap as possible and sell them internationally to get around copyright laws. Right now they are ripping off peavy and marshall.....bogner is only a matter of time.

Hafler Triple Giants pop up used now and then. I have one that I got in about '99 off E Bay. It is a 3 channel tube preamp designed by Bogner for Hafler.

I don't know how close it is to a Fish, but it's a fine sounding preamp in its own right. Easily one of the best sounding preamps I have heard. The clean channel alone is magical. Sparkly (think 80's clean Strat tone) but yet smooth. The brown channel is the crunchiest amp voicing I have heard. It has a very 80's voice though. Tight, crunchy 80's rock is what it was made for. It wasn't made for cleaning up when you back off on your volume control either. Even at lower gain levels, it crunches.

The Sharp channel has more hair, perfect for buzzier, higher gain 80's lead tones.

Re: bogner fish preamp

I'd just take Grooveking's word for it. Egnater M4. The Bogner is better made, but more expensive. But, if HE says the Egnater M4 is the best value, it probably is.

And yeah, that guy is the #1 King of Gear. Those preamps are 1/500th of what he owns.

Get ready for THIS. It's TheGrooveking's collection!

Re: bogner fish preamp

there was the Fish, the Triple Giant and the 4 channel Egnater that was mentioned/pictured, which didn't guite have the same amount of seductive evil as the Fish and Triple Giant. But it was 4 channels gained in very linear increments, and stereo. Those were for what we salivated circa '93 plus a VHT power amp.

Then came the Ecstasy. It was the Fish + Marshall power, and we didn't need to get a separate power amp any more. It had all the Fish tone and more balls and snap than any other amp in the entire world. So in 1993 I bought the 3rd Ecstasy and the 2nd or 3rd matching cab. And I used it hard for 10 years.

With a decline in tube quality Bogner (and others) couldn't drive his amps as hard without having a lot of tube problems. The difference is apparent when comparing newer Ecstasys and Shivas with early models.

If you can find a Fish, great, or a Triple Giant, great, or that 4 channel stereo Eganter, great. Failing that, an earlier Ecstasy will give you the sound. Newer Ecstasys are great, but don't have that extra richness that makes grown men cry, pull out wallets, and fight each other. Believe me I had to fight tooth and nail for that '93 Ecstasy.
