Bogner Uberschall.

I want to love this thang, but I just can't get it dialed in like I want. I always go back to my Twin Tube Classic, or Soul Food, or something else.

$150. Shipped CONUS. This includes two new Bogner 9-volt batteries.

Re: Bogner Uberschall.

Would you say it compares to the preamp of an Uberschall head well?

Sorry. If I could afford an Uberschall head, I wouldn't have the pedal. (What Jolly said.) ;)

And, . . . I'll do $140 shipped CONUS, PayPal'ed.

Re: Bogner Uberschall.

I love all the Bogner pedals, but the Uberschall is different from the XTC pedals. It has a really active midrange control, and somewhat smooth gain. It has a TON of gain, but it doesn't sound like it. It saturates, but diming the gain and volume on the pedal doesn't get the same type of gain you would get by diming the gain on a 5150. I like the smoother high gain distortion a lot (the smoothness may be due to me diming the mids - it gets fat Brian May type mids). I really like it, and the best way I could describe it is that it NAILS the modern high gain Alice In Chains tones, especially the heavy parts on Black Gives Way To Blue. I know Jerry Cantrell uses a bunch of layers with different amps and guitars, but he apparently used the Uberschall quite a bit on that album and the following tour. Go figure.

To my recollection, the Bogner XTC and Uberschall pedals are supposed to basically be the real amplifiers simplified preamps, all with analog circuitry - no ICs or diodes. I've also read anecdotes of people on other forums who tested the preamp pedals against the real deal, and they all seemed to be impressed. I'd say whether or not anyone would like any of the Bogner pedals comes down to whether or not they like the Bogner sound - a bunch of saturation, slight compression, and a real punchy, full, in-your-face type of sound.

Re: Bogner Uberschall.

Well said. What I'm really wanting to do is, build an iso-cab. I've got the "stuff". I just need the time. (And the inclination.) I want to hear this baby cranked. Into my Bogner Alchemist, and into my Peavey Windsor. I think that's when it will come alive.

But, I just need the T&I. :)

Re: Bogner Uberschall.

Try it in the Alchemist's effects loop return, so the Alchemist is used as a power amp for the Uberschall pedal. That should bypass the digital stuff Line 6 put in it, and it'll probably sound GREAT. It should also sound killer in the Peavey's effects loop return (which the XTC pedals should also kick ass and take names at for more old-school sounds). I've even used the Uberschall pedal into a Kustom Quad 200's power section, and it was better than the Kustom's preamp (the Kustom makes a GREAT 200W power amp though). The Bogner pedals really hold their own when used as just preamps rather than pedals. It might even change your mind about selling it. :)

Also, both Jolly and I really advocate reading the manual LOL. The middle control and bass control are REALLY active on the Uberschall pedal. Especially the mids knob. Moving it 1 mm makes a lot of difference.

You just talked me out of selling it. Sorry kids. You'll have to wait 'til MF's next SDOTD.

I need an iso-cab. ;)

Re: Bogner Uberschall.

Nah, you need to blast it through a really loud cabinet. You'll really appreciate it then. ;)

I'd recommend starting with the eq all at 12 noon, then dial in the mids first to taste. Once you have the mids set, then you start to fiddle with the bass (making sure the amp can handle it), and lastly the treble to add whatever amount of clarity/balance you want. I've even gotten good sounds with all of the EQ on 10. Whatever suits the setup. If only the pedal had a presence control (which is supposed to be really important on the real amp), but that's part of the Uberschall's power section, not the preamp.

The problem isn't the "cab". It's the acreage. It would be fun to jam more than 30 seconds before the "man" shows up. On the up side, I have sons with a bit 'o acreage. I hope the pigs and goats don't mind.

My Schecter Blackjack, with Duncan Distortions, into the Uberschall, into the Windsor. Every knob "dimed". This could be fun. ;)

Well, it's cool you figured out how to get the sound you like. I love Jerry's tone so it might be a cool thing to pick up unless a good deal on a real Uber pops up.

Re: Bogner Uberschall.

I think for older Jerry tones, the ecstasy red would be great - I think it has more of that Bogner modified Marshall sound. I really love the sound of Black Gives Way To Blue though, except it is too loud sometimes! The distortion is most noticeable on When The Sun Rose Again IMO.

Re: Bogner Uberschall.

Oh and all of the Bogner pedals clean up exceptionally well using the guitar's volume knob once you dial it in. I actually like the cleans through the Bogner pedals more than the guitar straight into my amp set clean.
