I really enjoy Bonamassa's playing but he did pretty much lift EJ's signature run/lick and he uses it constantly.

Re: Bonamassa tone w/Black Country Communion= amazing

Its clear in this video he has 2 Marshalls, an Orange & something else which I can't identify. The Marshalls look like his Jubilee & a Plexi.

Thats Joe's live rig...Jub, Cat 5 JB model, Two Rock JB Model, Van Weelden...

Re: Bonamassa tone w/Black Country Communion= amazing

i dig JB ( and i think he digs Eric Johnson, but i cd be Miss Taken. any one else hear EJ?),
and i dig D Trucks, and SRV,... is it me or is Roy Buchanan massively underrated? cuz the Wolf would have been adored along with those three if he had lived,

.... sez me, ... i think irs a no brainer but few, very very few mention him...

RB was alot like SRV in that he was a Southern white guy w blues pedigree who owned it, totally, not just blues but he tapped into ... invisible lightning, or whatever that realm is that Srv and Jimi were sending the flaming postcards from...

Re: Bonamassa tone w/Black Country Communion= amazing

Just listened to BCC for the first time...ever

They're progressive as hell, I was expecting a blues band...definitely not what I expected

Also really impressed by Joe's playing, it's NOTHING like any of his solo blues records, very shreddy. And, at risk of sounding redundant, progressive.

It's almost like a blusier, less over the top Dream Theater...

I like to think about them as Deep Purple for the 21st century!

Re: Bonamassa tone w/Black Country Communion= amazing

He uses two Marshall DSL 100s, with BCC. He said that they work better than his usual set up, since he doesn't need the variety of tones he uses with his own band.

I hate putting labels on new rock bands, but there's no denying that it's what they sound like. Nobody should feel bad using that description. I'd rather consider them the extension of Deep Purple than that awful interpretation of Deep Purple with Steve Morse or Joe Satriani. Bonamassa and Glenn Hughes have grabbed the spirit of the original Deep Puple torch and ran with it.

Re: Bonamassa tone w/Black Country Communion= amazing

I dig the group!! Never knew Glen was a monster bassist as well. Plus, seems like a genuine nice guy in interviews Ive seen

Re: Bonamassa tone w/Black Country Communion= amazing

I dont understand the Trucks-Bonamassa comparisons since Derek is mainly a slide player and arguably the best out there, and JB is a Rock Blues player who can easily rip off country or jazz lines just as easy as the other two styles. Joes teacher used to be the late great Danny Gatton for a few years till his death, and there is a great documentary about Joe made during this period 94 that used to air on PBS. It was made when Joe was in the band Bloodline made up of the offspring of all famous musicians Eric Davis drums- Miles Davis, Berry Oakley Jr, lead vocals and bass-Berry Oakley, Waylon Krieger rhythm guitar-Robbie Krieger and Joe when they were teens, with Joe being the only one who made it.

I know he splits his guitars between EBMM and Gibson models though the new BCC album was used with mainly two EBMM guitars including his new Black Lord and two Gibsons. I am dying to get the new Dust Bowl CD his 12th solo album in as many years as the reviews have been stellar and it is said to be his best to date. At 49 he is one of the few who brings a smile to my face and plays the way it should be played.

Re: Bonamassa tone w/Black Country Communion= amazing

There is a video... I think it may be the opening for the Premier Guitar rigs one.
He is playing this 58' Les Paul and just nailing the early Clapton Cream thing... it's awesome.

But here is something I've noticed... and you've got to play what you feel... and get your sound.
But at the expense of other players? I mean Stevie Vaughan kinda' had to do the same thing.
Do you know what I am sayin'? Derek Trucks and Eric Clapton are capable of backing off and sharing the stage.
It is part of their personality's too granted...
I guess I'm calling him a Stage Hog... ever seen Patty La'belle ever try to share a stage?
Now.... I might be completely off base here... because it's his moment to shine... he should take it!

**** I'm leaving this up as reminder to myself never to post to my favorite forum before I've even had coffee...
For all I know Joe Bonamassa might be the nicest most gracious person in the world! I don't know him...

True, but how many other guys can touch that lick? If I could get my fingers to move like that, I'd use it regularly myself.

I had seen a video of him talking about his "NEW 59 Burst" As he said in the video, its not mine yet I'm still paying for it. He will probably be adding that to his arsenal.

ive met joe a few times over the years. 1st time i met him he was a nice kid, maybe 18 or so. next time i met him was in memphis and he was a cocky prick, mid/late 20's. his band was cool though. last time i met him was just a few years ago and he was much cooler. seemed like he went thru a phase of massive ego but has grown out of it.

that said he is used to being the only guitar player or at least the main focus when he is on stage and might not share quite as well as clapton, trucks and others.
