I's run only 6l6s and II's have the switch in the back to run EL34s or 6L6s. Don't know about the tone though. The I's have a "sliding" switching system which although is fast enough for most, it's something to complain about for others.

LOL!!! I am on my 3rd amp this month!!!! I bought a killer little Boogie DC3 at GC Atl last night and the flippin thing crapped out on me when I got it home. Its was a great sounding amp for the 20 minutes I played it at home. I actually want another one like it.

Aside from the differences mentioned, the I had two modes for the gain channel, Vintage and Modern. The II has three modes, Raw, Vintage and Modern. The added Raw mode is somewhere in the gain middle ground between the Clean channel's Pushed mode and the Gain channel's Vintage mode.

I forgot about the Solo pot on the Series II. Essentially, it's a second Output control. It allows you to set your overall volume with the Output, and the Solo can be used via footswitch for a second, higher output level for solos, etc.

BTW, B, thanks for referring to them as a "Boogie". It seems that everyone now just says "Mesa". I still call 'em "Boogie".

The series I has the solo also. Sorry, I forgot about the 3 modes on the lead channel.
I think the series I has black knobs for the "amp controls"(vol, solo, pres) and the channel controls(gain, high, low, blah blah) are silver and the series II knobs are all black.

Re: Boogie Rect-O-Verb series 1 and 2 difference

I'll just add that I've played both, as I owend a series 1, a friend still owns a series 2.
We both thought the series 1 sounded a little better. Not really sure why, but it seemed to have a little more warmth, and was less buzzy.

Both were played using the same cab, same guitar, same cords, same preamp and output tubes (6L6's), with the same settings. That's alot of "sames" LOL.

I wonder if the added features of the series 2 changed the circuit?
