Boogie's wattage ratings?

I know that Marshall's wattage ratings are rather conservative... for example a 50W JCM800 head has shown that it will actually pump out around 80-90 watts when throttled full out. The 50W mark is only the onset of power tube distortion.

Are Boogies rated the same way or when they say 50W is it 50 watts absolute maximum?

No way is my mark IV only 85watts.
In the manual it describes all the different power features.
I can run it anywhere between 30 and 170 watts. \m/

This is a Rectoverb with no switchable wattage settings.

I'll ask again: Do Boogies rate conservatively like Marshall does or not?

I think the wattage rating is probably fairly accurate, due to the fairly cold fixed bias. Then again, it seems like all tube amps are "conservatively rated."

Boogies are notorious for being conservatively rated and I find my Rectoverb to be no different. They all have fixed bias and they always read way hotter than what they're rated. I haven't tested it, but if my Rectoverb is only 50 watts, it's the loudest 50 watt amp that I've ever heard.

Yeah that lil sucker is LOUD.

wow, a lot of boogie rectoverb owners around here...I love mine!!! the only amp gas I've got now is a 59 bassman reissue (since I"ll never afford the real thing) and a 1x12 cab to add to my combo

I´d say (subjectively) that Mesa is probably more conservative than most, because 20 mesa watts can easily keep up with 50 Marshall watts in most settings ...

The question is just how much of that "keeping up" is extra wattage and how much is the different tone?

I read somewhere that a 100w Dual will peak at about 180w.....but I don't know how true that is, or how often and under which conditions it is when/if it peaks like that.

Peavey rates their four power tube amps at 120w. I always thought that was good trick for getting kids to buy their amps.

I would agree that they're very conservative in rating... I laughed when I was told that the DC-3 was 30 watts

I did not find the F-30 to be any louder than an older Peavey C20 or a new Crate V1512. Says it is rated for 25 watts and I do not think they get there.

Speaker efficency will have a lot to do with it as well. Eminence Governor rated at 102 or 103 dB at 1 meter at 1 watt vs. Greenbacks which are rated at 97.

I have a dual rec. and a Dr. Z maz jr. and i swear that the 18-watt Dr.Z is louder than my dual rec., and i have kt88's and high gain front end and GZ34 retifier tubes in my mesa. I think that it is more important in how the amp is voiced and what speaker config. you have more than actual watts. IMHO

for a while in the rehersal studio i was playing through a mesa single rect. half stack and the other guitarist was using a 5150 half stack and the mesa had no problem keeping up with the 5150 at very high volume (hehehe i love studios). so my guess is they are conservatively reted.
