Boost in the Loop

I've been running a keeley katana in the loop of my Marshall DSL 50 for over a year now, never had an issue. I use it to boost my solos a bit. I am about to pick up an Orange Rockerverb 50 and I'm wondering if I can do this on that amp as well? Is this safe? Is a loop between preamp tubes and the power tubes? Anyone else do this?

Re: Boost in the Loop

Hm? Is there an effects loop in the amp you will acquire yourself? If so, yes, by all means, no harm in putting your Katana in the loop. It is pretty much standard to put boosts in the loop if you want a clean volume boost, put it before preamp if you want to push the preamp section a bit for increased gain..

Re: Boost in the Loop

using my mesa knowledge as reference, I'm assuming the mesa boogie "solo" boost is in the loop since it is disengaged when you hard bypass the effects loop.. same concept, same effect.. I wouldn't say this is a pure clean volume boost since they are power tubes and the more signal you let through the more you will push the power tubes into overdrive.. thus when you put the katana (which is as good as a "clean" boost as you can get from a pedal) in the effects loop of your orange amp (assuming it has one) you might get a bit more gain for your distortions and quite a bit more gain for your cleans
