Booster Circuits

I have mid boost circuit in my guitar that works with 9V battery.I was wondering if i can push it with 2 batteries without burning something.Anyone has experience with that kind of modding?

Re: Booster Circuits

Hi Abaddon; This is one of those things that there's no way to really know without seeing an actual schematic of the circuit. It might be able to run at double voltage, but then again, maybe not.

One quick and dirty check you can make, is to look closely at the caps. See if you can see their voltage rating. If any are rated at 12 to 16 volts, then you probably can't. But there are many other factors.

Re: Booster Circuits

Things like, are there any IC's. Sometimes, you'll see simple cicuits where they use an IC designed to run at some low voltage. They'll use a simple resistor to drop the 9 down to, say 5 or 6. Thats a little more rare, but I have seen it.

Also, transistor biasing. The components will be selected to bias a transistor in its linear range. If you just double the voltage, you'll throw that bias off. The transistor may be full-on, all the time.

Thats one of those things where you need the schematic to know for sure. ;)

Yeah...Thanks for your time. It's better to ask that to smoke something.Maybe i'll draw some kind of diagram and send it to ya.
