Boss BD 2 vs EHX Soul Food to stack with OCD

Hello,

I love the tone I get with my OCD through my Vox AC 15 (lo gain, 9-10 o'clock). I've tried a few pedals to stack into it: Wampler Tumnus (sounded too thin on its own), ZVex Box of Rock (meh) and lately I've been using an Ibanez ts9, which adds punch to the OCD, but I don't like it as an always on od. I was thinking about the EHX Soul Food or the Boss BD2: anyone have experience using either one of these before the OCD?

Soul Food is "transparent" but theres not enough gain on it and it gets harsh at higher gain settings. I am a big fan of the BD-2

Probably, I've never tried it specifically with an OCD (I don't have one) but everything I do have that I stacked a BD-2 with was an improvement

The Soul Food is based on the Klon. My Klon clone, the Golden Horse, is a fantastic pedal on its own, but I find it meh when gain staging with it. In my experience, using a boost to gain stage gives better results. However, I have never tried the exact combination you are discussing, which might be fantastic. I would love to hear about your results no matter which pedal you decide to go with.

The BD-2 stacks pretty well most of the time because it's so versatile. You can use it as a clean boost, edge of OD, distortion box, or pretty close to a fuzz. It's unusual that at least one of those settings doesn't fit well with another OD. :P

input and output impedances make a big difference in how things stack. the fuzzface is an extreme example of this.

i dont hear the soul food as transparent, though many use that term for it. and its loosely based on a klon, but is a pretty different thing. timmy is the best transparent overdrive ive found. im not a big bd2 fan, but it does stack very well with many things

I just ordered my Boss BD 2 online and I'll let you know how it goes.

The BD-2 is a foundation pedal, which sounds like gainy blackface amp. I recommend to stack the OCD into the BD-2.
