I just got a boss dd3 delay pedal... does anybody know how to set it for a Petrucci/EVH/Vai/U2 type delay effect? where to set the level/feedback/time (what%)
also other recommended settings would be cool for clean/distorted.
thanks

Re: BOSS DD-3 settings?

THe level and feedback settings are going to vary depending on whether you run it in front of the amp, or in an effects loop. The more dirt/compression after the delay, the lower you'll want to run them.

I have my DD-3 in front of my Marshall 18 Watter clone (dialed in moderately crunchy) and I run the level and feedback at about 9 o'clock, with the delay time at noon (longest switch setting). Works for Police and some U2, but that delay's kinda long. FOr more genreal use, you might want the delay around 10-11 o'clock.

Parallel vs series loop as well will effect where you set the level knob.

Re: BOSS DD-3 settings?

This is a bad question....by that I mean it's really unanswerable. Delay settings are very particular to each artist/song. I'm gonna recommend doing this the hard way: Using your ears. Listen to the song and ask "How many repeats" and "How far apart"

Then, set the time, the repeats, and adjust the level to taste. Vai tends to use a lot of long/high repats. VH often uses a singl short one. Levels vary....

Just play with the knobs for a while. You'll get it.

The other alternative is to say something like 6 repeats at 234 ms, level 80% of original. You can do that with the dd-3.
