boss DD20

alright guys.
i just got my hands on one of these big delay beasts.
playing around with it is fun, with the variety of modes.
lets get down to the serious stuff.
i wanna lay down concrete foundations in how i use the delay but i'm somewhat overwhelmed cause theres just SO much to choose from.
Basically, there are 4 memory slots (whats this manual slot mean?).
I'm thinking.
1. Long, winding delays , U2-esque, very backgroundy sorta ambient stuff.
2. Shorter but sustainy delays for solos.
3. Delay for chord picking.
4. Slapback.

I'll be sticking to the Standard (digital), Analog and Tape settings. In terms of Digital and Analog, i can tell the diff in that theres that sorta high end decay in the analog. But what is different aroudn the Tape Setting. All i've found is the dual head system, but i have no idea how to use that.

Can anyone help in for the 4 different delays im trying to set ie. which mode will sound the best, which position for the e. level and repeats and what tempo and approx. timing.

I know i should figure out myself, but i just need a basis to start from and i'll work around it. I'm just overwhelmed by the pedal but it seems VERY VERY useable when mastered. Thanks in advance :)

Sorry, just a little off topic . . . just a question that I've been wondering for a while, can you set up the DD-20 to act like 2 delays at the same time? (ie the intro to Run Like Hell) ?

Re: boss DD20

Yeh. Theres the 'dual' function that lets u have 2 delays, I THINK. I'm not too sure.
Also the Tape delay allows you to have 2 heads but again, im not too sure how to use it.

1) The BOSS US website already has tone of documents like "How to use effects" and sample switch positions for almost every one of their delays.
2) Google is your friend.
3) Slap back is usually low on the milliseconds and feedback but high on the level.

Re: boss DD20

For slapback, I like a digital delay with a short time, usually less than 100 ms. For the U2 sound, try one of the multi-head settings.
