I rely mainly on my amp to get my distortion tones but i intend to get one of these two(boss distortion DS-1 or ibanez tube screamer TS9) just for some volume-gain boost during solos ......
Which one of them is the most transparent and won't change much my amp's tone?

IMO, look at a SD-1 before you go for a DS-1 - more transparent :)

cant really comment on the tubescreamer, i havnt sat and toyed with one for any length of time yet..

Both pedals you mention will color your tone....The TS9 has a peaky midrange tone that some dislike....

The DS1 is probably more transparent in the way it's eq'd but you'd have to keep the drive down pretty low and the volume up...

The SD1....Has a different eq and tone stack then the TS series and is a brighter, tighter, and more aggressive sounding overdrive....The SD1 does not sound like a stock TS....The TS compresses and the SD1 stays pretty tight and crunchy and the TS tends to feel warmer and smoother by comparison..Both pedals use silicon diodes but they also clip the signal differently..

What about the Duncan Pickup Booster instead....Transparent is one of it's strongest qualities?

TS-9 definitely. It is much better stock than the DS-1. The DS-1 definitely colours your tone. However the Zakk Wylde Dunlop OD is better for boosting.... it was made to go before a dirty amp. I use both it and my TS-9, but like the Wylde OD better. It's good for everything.... not just metal like you may think.

No unfortunately i cannot count on the duncan pickup booster as i need a pedal that i can find easily here in Greece and the duncan isn't one of them.
So based on your post i assume you prefer the sd-1(super overdrive)......(do not confuse it with the distortion ds-1 please) over both the ds-1 and the ts9?

I like the Zakk Wylde OD as well. My only complain is the feedback you get when its cranked up and your off the strings.

+1 on the Zakk Wylde OD. Best sounding OD I've owned, and I've owned too many to count. Seriously though, to get volume boost for solos, and OD or distortion pedal isn't going to do it. You need a boost pedal like the classic Dallas Rangemaster or something like that. Go to diystompboxes.com and look at the beginner project. It's a simple boost circuit that will give your PLENTY of boost for soloing, and add a little more dirt too. There's tons and tons of boosters out there. One of them will suit your style and taste.

The SD-1 has a different clipping stage than the TS-9. One is symmetrical and the other is assymetrical. Can't remember which is which off the top of my head at the moment. I have an SD-1 as well and it doesn't boost worth a squat for soloing (when run in front of a dirty amp). It does add a nice character to it though. I modded mine so it sounds totally different now.

ok i found a seymour duncan pickup booster and i am willing to try it(even though i am a bit concerned regarding the numerous reliability issues from the harmony central reviews). One more question.....when engaging the pickup booster in front of an overdriven amp does it add gain or is it just a volume boost?
