Boss EQ Pedal - applications?

A freind gave me a Boss EQ pedal to try out/play with. I was thinking I could use it as clean boost (or even to more fine-tune my distorted tone).

Anyone out there use an EQ pedal in their setup? If so, I'm curious how you use it. Also, are there particular frequencies that are typically boosted or cut? So far, I just slide the faders around until it sounds "good".. but I really don't know what the hell I'm doing... haha. :smack: I'm usually just a guitar thru a tube screamer into an amp kinda guy.

Is that a GE-7? I have one that I use as a solo boost. Either in front of the amp as a gain boost (plus slight volume boost if the amp isn't already overdriven much) or in the effects loop for a bigger volume boost. I think it sounds great. You can either just put the level slider up, or adjust the EQ sliders to modify your boosted tone - more mids for example. Useful piece of gear to have around.

I've used a Boss EQ for a lead boost in a band. I just boosted all of the frequncies a little bit and more of a bump around the mid-high area, then boosted the overall output. It gave me more of a cut in important frequncies and an overall volume boost.

You can use a compressor the same way. Kick up the attack and output with a little extra sustain and use it for solos. Or, I've also used an MXR micro-amp for straight up gain. Or, use that TSP setup with maybe a treble boost and a little gain, but a lot of volume.

EQ pedals are probably the most versatile pedals you can buy. They can do everything from a clean boost to completely changing the character of your amp, if that's what you want.

Try a U or V pattern to scoop the mids, or the inverse to fatten things up for leads. You could also cut the treble for some sludgy, swampy rhythm sounds, or cut the bass and boost the high mids for a nasal, almost out-of-phase tone. Play with it and see what your amp likes.

Boosting the EQ for lead tones is good, as well setting the EQ for that "perfect" static wah tone that is hard to repeat with a wah-wah pedal.

I have 2, I like em'.

One is from Japan, one was made a bit later from Taiwan. The MIJ one sounds a bit better. The MIT one is going to get "MODDED".

I have used the GE7 and still own one... I use it sometimes to boost the low end on smaller combos for more of a heavy metal low end thumb.. but the GE7 can also add noise in high gain set ups....

Listen to some David Gilmour . . . or do an internet search and look for his settings. He uses three or four of those little graphic equalizers for different sections of the Pink Floyd tunes that he does.

Man that would be a cool setup from his Pulse era rig!!! Mind you his GE7's are modded for quiet operation i hear.... When you are a famous rock guitarist you can have anything you want..... someone once wrote that his Pulse rig would cost an easy $60,000-$80,000 or more to copy exactly.....
