Boss Fuzz question

I tried the new FZ-5 COSM Fuzz yesterday and it has three different modes. The middle and right mode was not my cup of tea but the left which IIRC was called F sounded great! I wonder, what Fuzz pedal will get me that sound besides the Boss unit?

The FZ-5 uses Boss CSOM modelling to model:
F - Fuzz Face
M - Maestro
O - Octavia

There are a million Fuzz Face clones and pedals based on that circuit out there. What is your budget?

A Fulltone '69 or '70 fuzz is about $150 new.

Like an old Fuz Face, reputadly better than the reissues, and if you ask me, better looking.

The Boss was OK

it felt digital to me. I liked the new Dyna Drive, but the Fuzz was not as authentic as I would want. Kinda like a line 6 Fuzz. It's feel here, not necessarily tone.

Try FoxRox or Fulltone. I have heard good things about Analogman.

Fulltone my be your best bet with your budget, although I do prefer the Foxrox and Analogman stuff (it's closer to $200). Also check out the Euthymia Crucible, Dunlop's newest Jimi Fuzz Face (It's the blue one, not black or red) and if you can solder, the BYOC Ultimate Fuzz kit. In fact, a prebuilt BYOC is in your range and really does the Fuzz Face thing well. Also, don't overlook the forum we're on now, the Duncan Tweak Fuzz is based on the Fuzz Face with 6 input capacitors. It's a very "clean" fuzz, but I like it a lot.

Good luck on your fuzz quest.... Most of the manufacturers abovce have audio clips on thier site, Musiciansfriend has the Tweak Fuzz.

What is the difference tone wise between the '69 and '70? Which would be most like the Boss unit?

I hear really bad things about the new Bosses.

Anyway, the '70 is supposed to be harsher and fuzzier than the '69.

Yeh i would look at the fulltone as they are tweaked fuzz faces. The vodoo labs fuzz gets a good wrap but im not sure if that is fuzz face based.

Maybe the seymour duncan tweak fuzz.
