Boss gt-5

Well a search for this didn't turn up much so I had to make a new thread. Whats the main differences between a gt-6 and a gt-5 besides the dual cosm thing. Does the gt-5 have digital output? Does the gt-5 allow you to use your amps pre-amp like the gt-6? The gt-5's are a whole hell of a lot cheaper on ebay so thats why I'm wondering.

The GT-6 does not have dual COSM engines, that would be the GT-8. The GT-5 is actually an older version of the GT series (before both the GT-3 and 6) and has a lower sampling rate and overall is less user freindly. It's effects still sound great, but as far as modeling goes, I like the preamps in the 6 and especially the 8 a whole lot better. :burnout:

Its older than the gt-3???? I figured it just went in order of numbers as far as oldest to newest. So in that case hows the gt-3 compare as well as the gt-5?

I have a GT5 but I use it solely as an effects engine and its a pretty good-sounding unit once you de-process it (get rid of all the overprocessing that Boss loves to do).

I've not tried a gt3 but I can't imagine it being all that different from the 5 model.

I'm assuming your saying you can use your amp pre instead of the modeled pres and just layer affects. Thats probably what I would need it for. Some distortion leads with chorus and delay layered ect...

Correct. I turn off the preamp, the overdrive-distortion, and the global EQ as well as the mic and cab simulations. That way I get all my actual sound from my distortion boxes and my amp.
