Don't see why not. All the Boss GT stuff is a little dry sounding. It's more "pedal" sounding than tube amp sounding, but that's good if you're using the GT floor boxes in front of an amp. So I would recommend a tube power amp, rather than a SS one for sure. But then again I think on those you can program what you're running through. So maybe inside the software if it knows you're hitting a SS power amp it can attenuate the output for a smoother sound. Anyway I like those GT boxes. They're the next generations of the Roland COSM stuff, and it's pretty good stuff. It's not a Boogie tube pre or anything, but it's good.

Just googled the unit. Looks pretty sweet. I've been running a GT-6 (into a carvin x-100b tube head) for years and love the thing. Sure I'd like a bunch or real amps better but Boss stuff is simple to use and with all those user banks I can write banks/patches for different songs...result...my sound is consistent from gig to gig.
I've tried running the GT-6 into various SS power amps...and while it would get me through a gig in an emergency, the tone gets a bit sterile. So I'd recommend a tube amp with a good amount of clean headroom. But that's just me. One mans sterile is another mans pristine.
I think your 1st question should be...Do I really need a pre-amp that can do so much stuff? 2nd question...Do I have enough dough left over for a midi controller so I can switch patches via foot? You might consider the GT-8 which still does a ton of stuff but has the foot controller built in.

I have loads of stomp boxes and a engl fireball head and 4x12". The only 2 stompers I use regulary is a 7 band EQ (permanently active) and the ch-1 for my clean parts. Problem is, I have good tone in reherseal room, but as soon as I drag my gear to a gig I cant find my sound. I wanna practise, play clubs and record with the same sound... Obviusly I am gonna run the GT PRO into a tube power amp.
Any pre amp that you would recomend instead of using the GT?(it just seems so...complete)

I fail to see what you want here. Are you saying you want to use that as preamp then put a power amp then some speakers and do sort of a Boss GT PRO Combo Amp sort of thing? Most any pedal should be able to be used to ampify the signal of a guitar.

Er, you can't just use pedals/stompboxes to preamp an instrumental-level signal.
You could consider the Rocktron Prohesy II - not sure of the price difference, but it's a better unit from what I've heard.

I'm not sure what he wants. But you CAN use pedals to boost the volume / signal strength / whatever of a guitar. The Boss BD-2 is an example of this, and Boss even recommends it to be used as such, with level all the way up and distortion all the way down. At that setting, it sounds like a rather loud Fender Twin, sort of....

I have a GT-Pro. It *is* a preamp. I run mine as a preamp into 2 powered JBL Eons (full range) with 15s and a horn in each. It needs a full range system to sound best, so it is silly to get one and put the sounds through a guitar amp or anything that can color the sound. It is just a different way of working. The GT-Pro is a GT-8 with better converters, a PC editor, and more I/O options.
I don't find at all that it is dry sounding, it is as dry or wet as you want it- there are thousands of parameters for each patch, so you can tweak as much as you want. The PC editor is awesome, and you can record (and edit) using a USB cable.
