BOSS metal zone MT-2 pedal???

Re: BOSS metal zone MT-2 pedal???

John.... For what you are doing get a Ts9 and set it to boost the mids a little and add a little volume and sustain!

Re: BOSS metal zone MT-2 pedal???

What kind of amp and guitar are you playing, and for what kind of music?

My buddy has a .50 cal and a Les Paul. We went out looking for a nice distortion that would not only drive the power tubes into a bit of clipping and compression but also add a nice crunchy sound to the mix. Our favorite was the Fulltone Distortion Pro ($220), followed by the Fulltone OCD ($180). Nothing I played came close to these guys, although I hear really good things about Rocktrons (haven't played any though).

The Distortion Pro has a great deal of flexibility, and is more a "distortion" than an overdrive pedal, meaning it's going to change your tone and give you more of the preamp edge to your sound. The OCD isn't quite as flexible, but still sounds great, and can be backed off as more of an overdrive as well. Both have plenty of gain (enough to do some metal), and responded really well to playing; pinch harmonics were a snap and they were feeding back like a real tube amp when cranked.

Either way, these are hands down my favorite distortion pedals. I can't stand the Metal Zone at all; owned it for a couple years and sold it. It's buzzy and fake sounding and ruins any tone you might have had. Just because you're playing metal doesn't mean you shouldn't have tone. Try one of the above pedals out; they're dead perfect for heavy rock and metal (and the OCD is perfect for just about anything).

Re: BOSS metal zone MT-2 pedal???

I used to have one...I didn't think it sounded awful. I think it can sound decent if it's EQ'd right and is used in the right place in the pedal chain etc. I wouldn't want it as my main distortion device but I think it sounds ok for some metal stuff.

Re: BOSS metal zone MT-2 pedal???

I have one and used to use it when playing on some of my cheap S/S amplifiers. It never sounded terrible by any means (and I believe those who claim that it is are exaggerating), however it never opened up enough to sound warm. And without warmth, high gain is just fuzz. And that's what it was, a pretty darn good fuzzy sound.

Fretburner is right when he said it takes away from all the nuances of your picking, which really sucks. Yeah...so my opinion... :scratchch :thumbsdow

Re: BOSS metal zone MT-2 pedal???

and search the tips and clips for more clips of mine

Re: BOSS metal zone MT-2 pedal???

The metalzone is a cheap stop on the road when your searching for a quality hi-gain tone.

Re: BOSS metal zone MT-2 pedal???

inter is right, it is a cheap stop to hi-gain. but if you want to try the mt-2, also try the line6 uber metal. the line6 sounds WAAAY better nad more versatile. i know because i own both. lol

Re: BOSS metal zone MT-2 pedal???

Here is my own demo of the Boss Metal zone

Re: BOSS metal zone MT-2 pedal???

I had one and could never manage to get it to sound right. However, a former bandmate of mine used one (and still does) through the clean channel of a Classic 30 and he manages to make it sound good and full. Would I pick his tone over anything high-gain coming from my Rectoverb or my Oranges? Of course not but he manages to make it sound way better with this set-up than anything/anyone I've heard demoing on the internet, and by far.

Re: BOSS metal zone MT-2 pedal???

Try an MI Audio Tube Zone and let your ears decide.

Or you could let a 9 year old thread lie in peace...

Rafito's posts should be deleted as spam...he doesnt want to talk about the metal zone hes just bumping threads fishing for hits on his youtube video...

Re: BOSS metal zone MT-2 pedal???

Ah, I should've guessed, didn't really realize he linked to it in all the threads....

Re: BOSS metal zone MT-2 pedal???

The stock version of this pedal is pretty cheesy in my opinion. However the Twilight Zone mod that Robert Keeley does to them is really amazing, turns it into a great distortion pedal.
I knew that there had to be someone else out there who knows about and appreciates this modded pedal. I love mine. Plenty of picking definition and tonal nuance. Plenty of modern underground metal sound too.
