Hi! I have a BOss ns2 and I cant figure out the best way to make it work. Pls suggest some settings.. In the loop or in front??

Re: boss NS 2

It's hard to get a pedal to work once it has determined that it can get by pretty well without working by using free OP Amps and Resistors the government takes from pedals that do work.

I used on a few years ago in front of the amp with my dirt pedals in the NS2's loop. There may be a better option if you're running a high gain amp with an effects loops.

That said, I agree with Christian. Your tone will love you for not using noise reductiion.

Re: boss NS 2

I put mine in front of the amp. Its third in line, after the Whammy and Wah. I don't use the built in loop function.

It works very well to help remove that high gain noise. I like it. It doesn't rob my tone and its on all the time.

Re: boss NS 2

I've tried mine both out front and in the loop.
I've found that in the loop with higher gains it can struggle to work without being intrusive unless you're playing full on. Any kind of playing dynamics start to be really hard work. Thus it stays after the rest of my small collection of pedals but before the amp.
I can't say it affects the tone that much, in my opinion, and is a great way to reduce single coil hum, but don't expect to cope with lots of gain without getting in the way.

Can you recommend some settings?? I found it intrusive when Ive tried it..

Sure. Here are my settings:

Thresh: 1:00
Decay: 9:00
Mode: Reduction

I find these settings work very well with my rig, and I play very loud with quite a bit of gain. I don't find it intrusive at all. As a matter of fact, I find it kind of essential as it helps remove the high gain hiss and excess noise. Whenever its off, its quite noticeable and noisy.

hope that helps. :1:

Re: boss NS 2

I only use mine to "silence" my AC-2. Threshold = 3 o'clock. Decay = 0. Mode = reduction.

The AC-2 goes into the loop of the NS-2. I also found that the AC-2 is quieter when my GE-7 is after it.

There's a noticeable loss of highs, but it's nothing that my amp's treble knob can't compensate for. Better to leave it on all the time, or not use it at all.

Re: boss NS 2

I have an MXR SmartGate that I will use in front of the amp if the noise is really irritating. Works well.

Tried it and as soon as I turn it on, its like a blanket over my cab..

Re: boss NS 2

get rid of your noise suppressor/gate/silencer/de-hisser/de-atomizer/noisy cricket/hum debugger/nipplehead/ns-2/isp decimator/ned flanders/bullwinkle/un-noiser/feedback eliminator immediately. do it, do it now. direct order.

what problem are you trying to solve by using it? I have owned 3 NS-2s, a Hush incarnation or two, and various and sundry in attempts to work around one thing or another, and I can suggest to you what I did INSTEAD for better results in each case, if you're interested.

EDIT: then again I've seen players that gank every knob in their chain, but they have a massive gate on the end, and they get an erupting volcano of sound that gets shut off by just stopping playing. Don't even have to mute any strings. It's just ROOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRR--silence.

interesting results can be had that way. So it depends what yer up to, I guess, just to counterpoint the passionate opening statement I made above.

EDIT 2: the best results I had were in front of the amp, not the loop, after any other pedals if any are used, without using the pedal's loop.
