Boss OD3 - Totally under rated overdrive pedal?

I have been using a Boss OD3 as my overdrive for years now and I absolutely love it. It is super transparent, so my strat sounds like my strat, it makes my guitar sustain for days, and when I stack it with a distortion pedal, I get a huge fat tone that sounds great. In the overdrive department everyone is always talking about Tube Screamers and Tube Screamer like boutique pedals, but this pedal hardly gets airtime. The Boss DS1 seems to get more attention, but I've ABed them, and in my opinion, the OD3 blasts the SD1 out of the water!

Interested in what other people's experiences have been?

I did a YouTube demo of my OD3 if you are interested: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC96TqRJsjevxi3dMuRTxtSw

There are at least a few other guys here that share your opinion. I need to try one out.

Re: Boss OD3 - Totally under rated overdrive pedal?

STOP IT with these OD-3 threads. I don't need one but dammit I want one.

Re: Boss OD3 - Totally under rated overdrive pedal?

I didn't know that the OD3 was so popular here :)

The awesome thing is this pedal is way more affordable than most of the popular pedals at the moment!

As a matter of interest, I like to play into a clean tube amp, I think that's where this pedal really shines. I then run a distortion into the OD3 to boost for leads. Works like a dream!

Sounds sweet, but I did notice that the parrot left the room before you started playing. :D

Re: Boss OD3 - Totally under rated overdrive pedal?

Every time I've convinced myself I have enough OD pedals... Someone brings up one I don't own yet.

What a Boss board this is.
I can think of a million other better pedals without a crappy set of buffers to boot.
If you're a good player I have no doubt the worst pedal can be used somewhat effectively. What is the deal with low budget stuff all the time is there some sort of problem with a serious quality pedal that might cost a little money?? At least maybe a Waza upgrade over the old style. Boss???

Re: Boss OD3 - Totally under rated overdrive pedal?

I've been saying it for years, Boss makes the overall best pedals on the market.

Re: Boss OD3 - Totally under rated overdrive pedal?

The OD3 is one of the best overdrive type pedals Boss has made, i too find it better than the SD1 pedal. It suffered poor marketing i guess but it does sound great, only thing cheap about it is the price. Soundwise it reminds me of the Nobel's odr1 a bit, plus a bit transparent behavior like the Timmy.

Take a relatively inexpensive Boss pedal, (even cheaper if you snag one in the Trading Post), toss in an inexpensive Monte Allums mod, and you get a sweet pedal that rivals many "boteek" pedals:

(Recording quality is somewhat lacking here.)

Re: Boss OD3 - Totally under rated overdrive pedal?

I use an SD-1 on my board sometimes, but I migrated to a Movall Minotaur for a quick solution for a boost type of OD...

Many, many types and brands of pedals get discussed here, with new names that aren't widely known being brought up every week. And many of the younger players with smaller budgets are still trying to get decent guitars and amps, and that's where most of their limited funds are directed. Good old, time-proven, Boss pedals, new and s/h, give them a chance to get hold of a few pedals of decent quality in the early years when some of the more exotic versions are beyond the scope of their budget at that time. There are probably also some older players who still use Boss products and sound awesome. Some of them may well sound much better than you ever will.

It is you who has the Boss fixation, and it seems that every time you see that name mentioned you have to post the same old stuff. Which basically makes you sound like "Look at me, I have more expensive pedals". We get it. I think that already, people here see your name and expect only two things .... Gainstage = panning Boss ownership and endless talk about buffers.

We get it. Change the record will ya ?

Some people have no option other than to buy BOSS pedals because Pigbacon is hoarding all of the other pedals in The Universe.

:fingersx:

This is the most snobby elitist comment I've ever read on this forum, and i only use this forum as a vehicle to be an elitist snob. Nice work, sir.

Look look a device to despise....
Yes it is essential with a blender and 0.0000001% parts, you cannot use that garbage to make any music.....hurry use it at the door instead, the wind is strong....wonder if it is the gods of pedals that are angry??

One cannot get through any thread here, of any question, about pedals where Boss is not mentioned, but "I" need to change the record because I just think think they are not great pedals that I had a back when I was a teenager. I am sorry but if one has to constantly seek out low priced and used stuff being a player of a few years, then maybe you are in the wrong hobby. The guitar is a marvelous thing to play and study but I never considered it a bargain adventure.
Maybe I should post a hundred shots of my gear move it around and do some more.
Trying to discuss things about guitar pedals that is just apparently not known by those constantly recommending budget yada.
Don't hate me because I am pretty.
