Boss OD3 - Totally under rated overdrive pedal?

Re: Boss OD3 - Totally under rated overdrive pedal?

Is Gainstage around anymore??
Or did he get an aneurysm from all that Boss heresy talk??
Haha!
Yeah....I just sold my OD-3...and got an OS-2 instead, even traded in a Mega Distortion....the latter I modded for better useage for low volume playing...it will never see any big amps at this stage anyways :)
But I'll probally get another OD-3 some other day...I just had too many drive pedals(projects and such)....

Re: Boss OD3 - Totally under rated overdrive pedal?

Interesting, I hated the OS-2, but each to his own, of course (unless you're Gainstage:1:). I just got my OD3. I find it a bit similar to my Marshall Bluesbreaker 2, a pedal that gets a lot of hate.

Last activity 07/07/2016. Oh well, if his main contribution was complaining in Boss threads...

Re: Boss OD3 - Totally under rated overdrive pedal?

Hmmm... I have a strange combination of stock Boss pedals, modified Boss pedals, and some expensive pedals on my floorboard. Whatever gets you there, baby!

Looks like I better get an OD-3 now.

Re: Boss OD3 - Totally under rated overdrive pedal?

Gonna go hit the bay and search OD3 right now!

Re: Boss OD3 - Totally under rated overdrive pedal?

So far I like it but I find it sounds a bit like two other pedals I have, Caline Pure Sky and Marshall Bluesbreaker 2.
I'll have to try it on a gig and see how it goes.

Re: Boss OD3 - Totally under rated overdrive pedal?

I had an OD3 but sold it. I was using it as a boost pedal, and liked that it kept some lowend in tact instead of stripping it away like the SD1. Eventually decided I didn't like the pedals response and midrange voicing

Since then I've gotten ahold of a Boss SD2 which is a better distortion pedal/Crunch pedal than boost. Probably the best sounding Boss distortion I've ever played. A real jem.

Re: Boss OD3 - Totally under rated overdrive pedal?

That was the day we started bidding against each other for a common old OD-3!

I kind of regret selling my SD-2. That’s the only one I regret. It was decent stock, but I bet a mod could have made it a killer two channel OD.

Re: Boss OD3 - Totally under rated overdrive pedal?

Finally got to try it on a gig. Played my Strat into a Blues Junior. Loved it! Nice and warm, without being muddy at all. I had the gain just past halfway. Seemed to work well for crunchy rhythm with my guitar turned down a bit, and sounded great for leads.

Re: Boss OD3 - Totally under rated overdrive pedal?

Sold mine for 50 bucks a handful of years ago...

Saw one in the used display case at a local shop for 50 bucks the other day.

Maybe I should go back and get it...lol.

Re: Boss OD3 - Totally under rated overdrive pedal?

Stop bumping this....gotta go look for an OD3 again now!

Re: Boss OD3 - Totally under rated overdrive pedal?

Hmm, stumbled upon this thread whilst looking for a drive pedal for my blues board.

I currently have a Keeley modded BD2 and looking for something to pair it with.

Is the OD3 too similar to my BD2?

Re: Boss OD3 - Totally under rated overdrive pedal?

I don't know that OD-3 and BD2 are a good pair if you want two different flavors. They are both definitely chocolate. How many kinds of Chocolate do you need? I'd go lighter (808) or heavier (78 Bad@$$, or Dirty Deed, or whatever)

Re: Boss OD3 - Totally under rated overdrive pedal?

Cheapest one is 60 bones on the bay right now.
