I just bought a BOSS TU-3. There have been a few questions about this pedal on other forums, so here's what I've found in my rig, but was only a 10 minute test, without my other pedals.

I placed the tuner in a true-bypass looper and used both outputs:
1. I cant hear any 'tone suck' like the TU-2
2. The natural 'hum' of my guitar gets changed to a higher frequency but doesnt sound like the guitar tone changes.
3. The tracking is extremely fast

Guitar was a Schecter with SD's, amp was a Randall G3 into a 1960A.

Thanks!

Re: Boss TU-3 Test Today

I never really got along with the boss tuner pedal, I like for a tuner to give off a different colour when Im in tune. the korg pitchblack tuner is where its at, in my opinion, but, whatever floats your boat.

Re: Boss TU-3 Test Today

personally, i never hear a difference in my bypassed tone with my whole board as opposed to plugging straight in. i guess that part of my hearing is broken? either way, i don't really see the need for a tu-3 when the tu-2 is already decent enough.

Re: Boss TU-3 Test Today

I got a GFS tuner a couple of months ago.
It's a fantastic tuner and the fact that it's only $39.99 makes it even better.

Same here.

Yes, it's 15 year old technology (older for the tuning stuff- and around 15 years for the whole pedal/bypass thingy), but it's worked fine for me so far. Heck, I'm fine with my old TU-12.

I guess if I were to sit down in a quiet room isolated from any other noise and run through a completely clean rig, I'd probably be able to hear the difference.

Any other time that resembles any time I'd be playing guitar- I've never noticed any tone suck or anything like that.

If I were to get a new tuner, I like what I've seen of the Sonic Research tuners.

doesnt the boss have a little green led in the middle of all the red ones to tell you when youre in tune? and have two little amber triangles that also light up?

i have an old tu2 and it works fine even though its not all that pretty anymore. i dont keep it between the guitar and amp very often, maybe at rehersal but thats about it. i do notice a tonal change with it in there so for shows it just sits on top of the amp

Re: Boss TU-3 Test Today

If I was after a new tuner (say if me TU-2 broke) I'd be tempted. As is I can't see many people dummping their excisting tuner for a TU-3.
Old stock TU-2's should start coming down in price mind, which is a good thing.

Re: Boss TU-3 Test Today

The only differences I can see is the addition of more LED's...

How is the TU3 an improvement over the TU2?

Re: Boss TU-3 Test Today

I ditched my TU-2 for a Digitech Hardwire pedal. I have less noise issues with it... The TU-2 under some conditions would introduce microphonics into the signal chain.

As did I, HW Tuner does it's job just fine with me. Don't miss the Boss at all.
