Hey guys,

I'm contemplating buying a new tuner pedal. I've narrowed it down to the new & improved Boss TU3 and the Korg Pitch Black. Which would you choose and why?

I know some of you like to offer other recommendations or alternatives. I'm open to all suggestions but please them under the $100 price tag.

Thanks,

Re: Boss TU3 vs. Korg Pitch Black

I use the Hardwire Tuner. The only thing I don't like about it is it's large footprint on my board. It is true bypass so if you need your tuner to drive your signal this ain't the one.

The Polytune does look like it could save you the time of checking each individual string in a live situation.

Re: Boss TU3 vs. Korg Pitch Black

The polytune is nice but from what tc told me you can not use poly mode if you tune different than standard. That was a deal breaker for me since my main tunning is down half a step. I am a fan of the pitchblack myself.

Wow... I could see drop or open tuning but it should at the very least do a half step down in poly mode.

I use my Polytune every week at a half step down on my acoustic, and I haven't touched a thing. It tracks like crap with my acoustic, but that is a different issue.

I duno who you talked to at TC but the Polytune has a button to go down in half-steps as low as B...

You strum E standard in E standard mode and it works fine...tap the tuning button once and you strum it and it's Eb Standard...

I use mine to tune to C standard with no problems.

Re: Boss TU3 vs. Korg Pitch Black

I love my Pitch Black. I haven't tried the TU-3, but I have plenty of experience with the TU-2, and the PB is vastly superior to that.

Re: Boss TU3 vs. Korg Pitch Black

Pitchblack is the biznass!!!

I've always heard great things about the Turbo Tuner as well...the Polytune i've heard mixed reviews.

Re: Boss TU3 vs. Korg Pitch Black

I've got a pitchblack and I love it. Can't comment on the others tho......

I will have to be one of the "other votes" also.

I have heard and seen great reviews on the Turbo Tuner from Sonic Research, so if I were in the market, I would check that one out.

Now here is what I presently own,
1) Hardwire pedal tuner
2) Korg something-30 plug in tuner
3) Boss TU-15 plug in tuner
4) Cherub clip on Tuner I think the model is a xx-523
5) Tuners built into the RP355 and Zoom A2 multi effect pedals

NOW MY FAVORITE: SNARK CLIP ON TUNER
www.snarktuners.com

Its a clip on tuner and I use it for my electrics and acoustics, it works fantastic, is out of the way, and just plain works, deadly accurate. CHEAP TOO!!! It is very stable when tuning also, not all over the place like others I have used. You can pick them up for about $15 bucks with shipping on Amazon.com

I am not affiliated with this company or sponsor, or stock holder. This is really a great little tuner.

If you have to have a pedal tuner, I would go with the Hardwire. I own it and it works well and stays out of the signal path with its true bypass switching. I would still check out the Turbo tuner. It may be much better but I am just going by the reviews online.
