Bought a Screamin Demon last night.

Hey all.

I bought a Screamin Demon last night.

I proceeded to install 6 fillister screws in place of the hex heads and installed it in my Hamer Special FM.

At first listen, it seems to have nice, tight lows with balanced mids and a good amount of bite. Not shrill to my ears whatsoever. Also, the cleans when combined with the APHn are superb, much better than anything else I've had in there before (JB, DD, Super Distortion, Custom, C5).

I will be playing it tonight at practice, so I'll let y'all know how it handles volume.

Re: Bought a Screamin Demon last night.

Good luck, hope you like it.

Funny thing about the SD is that it's too hi-fi for the PAF snobs and the resistance number is too low for those that think they need Mount Everest sized gain. Fact is, it's the best middle-of-the-road pickup I think I've ever played.

Re: Bought a Screamin Demon last night.

I loved that pickup! I had the demon/59 combo in a les paul once but that guitar was stolen 3 years ago :(

I want to put one in my next guitar.

Re: Bought a Screamin Demon last night.

i wish i were rich because then i would try every duncan pickup. there are so many that i havnet thought of trying like this one. sounds like a winner!!!

Re: Bought a Screamin Demon last night.

Oh my God!

This pickup is freakin' sweet!

Everything I heard at low volume held up under high volume. The only diff is that that it got bigger. Much, much bigger.

It chunks when palm muting, roars when riffing, sings when playing leaads, and has a ton of sparkle and chime when clean.

What more could you ask for?

I don't know, as I haven't tried it in its stock form. It's supposed to get warmer with 12 slotted screws. I did this prior to installation out of fear of it being too bright in my Hamer.

I'll eventually try the hex screws, but I'm really liking what I'm hearing at this point.

Re: Bought a Screamin Demon last night.

Thanks for the review! I've been quite interested in it too lately in my search for low-output pups for my ESP M-II. Do report how it sounds stock, if you can.

What do the chnage in screws in accomplish? How does it change?

This beefs up the mids and tames the (IMO) horrible upper mid-range spike it has in it's stock form.

It makes the pickup actually useable.

Re: Bought a Screamin Demon last night.

good to know another SD fan. i embrace this pickup for its growling midrange, good for fusion/ black metal with the correct amp settings.

Re: Bought a Screamin Demon last night.

How does the Screaming Demon go in basswood bodies? I've been told that basswood doesn't like low output pickups due to it's neutral sound properties... :smack:

it sounds like you just described the Dimarzio Paf pro.

Re: Bought a Screamin Demon last night.

I love how the Demon responds to how hard you "dig in" your picking attack. And I have yet to find a pup that can Chug as heavy. The Full Shred is close....

it's in my Ibanez RG1550- basswood. superb.

Re: Bought a Screamin Demon last night.

And in my Ibanez Roadstar thick basswood body with flamed mapple top ; gorgous !
The thing is that basswood is a very resonnant wood so low to medium ouput pickup still get a good ouput level , and eq wise a very balanced wood .

Re: Bought a Screamin Demon last night.

I am fairly new to the forum, and to Seymours.

Purchased an SD a few weeks ago for my beater RG470: Very nice pickup. Reasonably tight--but not too tight, sings--but can scream a bit, growls...but you can make it snarl.

It is a bright, but over all a well balanced pickup. So far, my favorite humbuckers (in no particular order) are PAF Pro, Screamin' Demon, Fred and Evolution 2.

I definitely lean towar lower-power pickups.
