Bought an SD-1...

Re: Bought an SD-1...

Fantastic pedal, adds a nice midrange push to solos making them either tighter and also works well for blues.

Re: Bought an SD-1...

I've had an SD-1 for years, still the same one. I still love the sound of it. I've got a couple of tweed amps, so I don't use it often. But its there if I need to drive it into Gary Moore territory!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

It only took us twelve hours and thirty-five minutes, and we have him talking about modding it.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

Re: Bought an SD-1...

I "liek" it, but hey everything can be made better. I bought this with the intention of fiddling. :)

Re: Bought an SD-1...

Ouch, Keeley mods are expensive. I'm just looking to mess around with it a little. Change some cap values, maybe the chip, easy stuff.

Re: Bought an SD-1...

The chip doesn't need to be changed. Change C3 to a 0.1uf cap for more bass. Change D5 to a 1N4001 diode. Start with those two changes, listen to it after each change first to make sure it is still working. And watch the solder pads. They can lift if you put too much heat on them. If you like those changes R10 to 1k will increase the output.

Just what I was looking for! Thanks. I don't have much experience soldering to circuit boards, what tips can you give me? I need to pick up a new iron tip and some desoldering braid from radio shack first.

Re: Bought an SD-1...

Small tip, the smaller the better, low heat - not too low but hot enough to get the solder flowing. Do not overheat the pads. Get in, get the solder flowing and get out. Let it cool before doing anything else. PRACTICE ON CRAP PARTS FIRST <--------- I cannot stress that enough. I'm not responsible for fried boards, parts or lifted pads/traces. :)

Re: Bought an SD-1...

Used the SD-1 w/my Hiwatt for years...it kicked ass!

Re: Bought an SD-1...

i use my SD-1 in front of my C30 as well sometimes but i found the old 80's TS-10 tube screamer i bought is slightly better..... but the SD1 for the price is a good pedal...

I was gonna pick up a TS-7 but this place didn't carry them.

If you can find a place that has a better selection that Rat Shack (we have a Fry's here - big dirty fun for tech geeks), look for #3 desoldering braid. I tried #2 and #4, but #3 is what Monte Allums puts in his kits and it's perfect for Boss pedal mods.
