Bought & had JB installed, have a question

Re: Bought & had JB installed, have a question

Welcome to the Forum!!
yeah it is too low as jeremy mentioned... I like my JB very close to the strings. I have the (screw) polepieces raised... and less than 1mm between the strings and screw polepieces. It's a matter of taste but to low i find the JB sounds a bit thin too high some say it loose clarity...just trust your ears

Re: Bought & had JB installed, have a question

Can you raise the pickup wihtout having to change the height of the intonation screws? so basically what im asking is, once u raise the pickup to ure desired height r u good to go, or are other complementary adjustments needed as well?

Re: Bought & had JB installed, have a question

that should be the only adjustment you need to make - pup height with a humbucker shouldnt effect intonation at all

... and this is a starting point only .. you can use your ears to make the final tweaks to the height ... for example, if the bass is a little too boomy, you can lower the pickup on the bass side a touch .. nothing says it has to be level ... similarly, if the treble side is a bit piercing, you can lower it some .. adjust to taste! .. and welcome to the boards :)

Re: Bought & had JB installed, have a question

hmmm .. dunno what to say to that! .. i wonder if the tech neglected to put the springs in? ... how squirmy would you feel about removing the four screws that hold the pup ring to the guitar to have a look? if you remove them and lift the pup out, you'll be able to tell if the adjustment screws are connected to the base plate of the pup properly and if the spring was installed correctly

if not, a trip back to the tech might be in order

good luck

Re: Bought & had JB installed, have a question

well i dont know anything about checking for these things..i just know that it will not go up any further than it already is..and its easily a quarter inch below the strings..which looks way too low..

Re: Bought & had JB installed, have a question

well without the springs..it wouldn't be able to go down would it? and it will go down, it just wont come up any further than 4/16"

Re: Bought & had JB installed, have a question

does the PU touch the pickguard somewhere, so that it can't get higher??

Re: Bought & had JB installed, have a question

on the treble side the material that keeps the wires covered does, it is touching the pick guard area

Re: Bought & had JB installed, have a question

also, someone emailed me that the JB isn't supposed to go up any further than a quarter inch from the strings..but i mean i dont have any complaints about my tone..im just saying it wont go up any further..but where it is it sounds fine, i was just tryin to see if i could get it to sound even better..its an amazing pickup imo, really great tone but still beefy and thick

Re: Bought & had JB installed, have a question

it seems it's missing the moutning ring..either i neglected to give them one or they neglected to install it..but hopefully it won't seriously damage the guitar and/or the pickup by installing it without a mounting ring..

Re: Bought & had JB installed, have a question

glad you like the sound

on your sg youll need to take the pick guard off to see why the pup wont go up anymore. its possible that the springs are compressed all the way. if you dont feel comfortable doing it, id bring it back to the shop that installed it and have them help ya

Re: Bought & had JB installed, have a question

with your sg you dont have or need one. the pup attaches to the pick guard. my sg had a much smaller guard and rings, like the '61 ri, sorry i just wasnt thinking.

Re: Bought & had JB installed, have a question

So i don't need a ring for a 2004 standard SG? ok thats cool, so the only thing i can see thats preventing me raising it IS the wiring tahts touching on the bridge site..with the felty material covering it..its bumping the pick guard and i think thats whats preventing me from raising it..quick fix, or professional assistance needed? thans
