Bought this Tele instead of an explorer, who'd a thunk?

Deliberated over this new Baja players tele for two weeks. Was really gassing for a cherry Explorer in the local store. But wanting something "different" than my LP Studio, I couldn't put this thing down. Awesome soft v neck, ash body, a twisted tele neck pickup (which is quite impressive) and a broadcaster in the bridge. These are Mexican made, designed by a master luthier. They're calling it a Custom shop with a custom shop neck plate and badge on the head stock. Didn't know they were doing Mexican customs, but glad they did. And with the right amount of gain dialed in on the amp, I can still do the hair metal tone easily, which is what I worried about.

Cool guitar. I was going to get one of those but got a MIM Ash Tele instead.

Part if it was the wait and part was my concern about being comfortable with the V-neck and 3-saddle bridge. I really prefer C carves and find 3 saddle bridges uncomfortable under my hand.

The bridge did take a little getting used too, but after a few hours no bother. I hear Fender is backordered and won't get any more out until late Jan. 07. So I wanted to go ahead and jump in before then. They only come in this Desert Sand and Blonde colors. Kind of bland if you ask me, but I'm too old to be worrying about flashy colors anymore. Although they did have a Jackson soloist with the blue and black broken mirror scheme that really tempted me to relive my hair metal days, but the $1800 price was a little steep.:blackeye:

My favorite tele color/pickguard scheme!!! I hate you man, horribly jelious.

Re: Bought this Tele instead of an explorer, who'd a thunk?

As soon as I saw Mexican I wanted to see what it would look like with a Mexican blanket, lowrider-esque or bandana type finish/print but that's just how I think.

That's a beauty! I want one!

Congratulations :beerchug:

Re: Bought this Tele instead of an explorer, who'd a thunk?

Very nice! Though I think it needs a black pickguard, but thats just me.

Re: Bought this Tele instead of an explorer, who'd a thunk?

these were designed by builders in the custom shop USA picking their favourite parts... but then build production style in Mexico... There is a few Strats in this series as well. It's kind of like their Master Craftsmen Signature models....

Been wondering if a different guard would take some of the bland off. But I kind of like it the way it is............for now.

Re: Bought this Tele instead of an explorer, who'd a thunk?

Putting a black guard on it would ruin the mojo, a white/black/white would look nice thought. ;)

Re: Bought this Tele instead of an explorer, who'd a thunk?

i like those features!!! me and one of my buds is going out on a music store tour today...i'm definitely gonna be on the lookout for one of those bajas to see how i get on with a v neck!

NEW STUFF ROCKS!!!

You are not helping me here!! I just got a new guitar and I am already GASing (even more) for a tele!

nice guitar :)

Re: Bought this Tele instead of an explorer, who'd a thunk?

I took a long hard look at those and the American Ash tele ... well, at least the specs, because both are kinda hard to find

the Baja does have great specs though ... what do you think of the switching?

the good thing is they seem good to go out of the box ... maybe get compensated saddles if the intonation is a problem, or a change of pickguard

other than that, just dress up like a bandito and spank it! :)

Re: Bought this Tele instead of an explorer, who'd a thunk?

To be honest, I'm not too fond of the switching. I guess it's nice to play around with, but I'm mostly leaving it in the up position. I'm still jonesing over the neck pickup. Since this is my very first Fender of any kind, been looking for info on the twisted tele neck pickup. Can't find a whole lot of info though.

The intonation is just a tad off, barely noticeable. But good enough for now. I may remedy that down the road.

The Custom Shop guys don't like compensated saddles? :smack:
