Brad Paisley

I probably won't get many replies on this since I don't sense much of a country following on this site, but here goes. I was just watching the country music awards and Brad Paisley played a song that had his signature guitar sound through the Dr. Zs, but does anyone know what kind of pups he uses? His sound isn't as twangy as it is compressed to my ear, but it is such a cool sound. Any of you guys know the scoop on Paisley's gear??

Re: Brad Paisley

i thought he used some custom made guitars (crook?) with Lindy Fralin Blue Specials
in the bridges and either a Duncan hot rhythm or an Adder in the neck?

amazing tone to be sure .. great player

cheers

Yep, Lindy Fralin BS and Adder neck. Tonight he was running a lot of effects. Did you hear the echo when he ended the sound :saeek:

Re: Brad Paisley

Fralins as far as I know. He's an amazing player. But guitars are first and foremost acoustic. He'd have gotten the same tone playing a MIM standard Tele with stock pups through a Fender Twin.

Re: Brad Paisley

I love classic rock myself but i have to say there is some amazing guitarists in country music! Some of them are zipping up and down the necks with a million notes.. and they have very little distortion to hide behind.

If Kimberly Williams was in my bed every night I wouldn't care if I played a Kay through a pignose.

Re: Brad Paisley

He's a great player for sure, and has some killer tone. Not sure he'd get that same tone playing a stock MIM into a Twin though.

Re: Brad Paisley

He does use the Fralin Blues Special bridge model. I believe Vince Gil is also using them.

Don't know whether Brad's is a hybrid stagger (almost flat...just the D and A poles are raised ever so slightly) or the regular raised and staggered polepiece version.

I prefer the almost flat hybrid stagger and I use that version of the Blues Special pickup in my '54 Tele...the original 50 year old pickups stay wrapped up in bubble wrap and stored safely in the case. The Fralins just sound better.

I'm surprised he doesn't use a Fralin Tele Stock neck or Blues Special neck pickup as those are some of the best Tele neck pickups on the planet.

The Fralins are in the same league as the Duncan Antiquity Tele pickups or Duncan Custom Shop Tele pickups. I have the Fralins in one Tele and the Duncans in my other two.

It's nice to have a choice between three differant killer tones from three differant great guitars.

Lew, didn't Eric Johnson buy a Fralin Blues Special from you, to use in his Tele?

A neck pickup if I remember right...yep.

The Duncan Custom Shop Tele ala Strat neck pickup MJ wound for me is my favorite covered neck pickup but the Fralin Blues Special is my favorite Tele neck pickup without a cover.

I just sent you a PM...just curious about something we were talking about a few weeks ago.....
