Just bought a brand new SSL-2.

Would it be labeled as RWRP if it was indeed RWRP?

Usually, it would be, but there can be exceptions, like if it was made that was as an OEM part.

Normally you could check with magnets to place them together with the tops facing each other. If they repel, they have the same magnet polarity. Sorry if it's too obvious.

I have no other SSL's to compare to at this point.

Right - I misunderstood. My next idea is to use a magnetic compass. If the north pointer on the compass is attracted by the top of the poles, then its South magnetic polarity which is standard for SSL-2. I expect that's what you have got, because the RW/RP have it printed on the label.

There is another indication: rwrp are indeed reverse wired. So the black and white hookup wires are reversed.

^ You still wire a RWRP single coil white = hot, black = ground, however.

IIRC the labels on the box, and the labels on the pickup should show RWRP.

SD pickups are configured south up.
