Floyds can make a guitar sound thin vs a traditional vintage style trem or a non-locking 2-point trem. The brass blocks help fatten them up some so they don't sound so thin anymore.

The Floyd in my Maiden Strat has a custom made brass block which is larger than what comes stock and there is a big difference in it.

I would definitely go brass with a Floyd but stick with the steel blocks for standard Strat trems, vintage and modern.

How is the big brass block in your Iron Maiden sound?
I have one of those blocks as well and it did fatten the sound up quite a bit as well as make the harmonic content richer. Dont know if it is that good tho, cause it is a bit overkill i think. a thinner one might sound better.

The big brass block helps make the guitar sound fatter than if it had the stock block. There's more sustain and clarity as well. Compared with my Kramer (which has a Floyd), it's night and day. Granted, one guitar has a maple board and the other has rosewood, not to mention the different body woods too, but I can feel the difference with how the guitar reacts.

I know my CU24s trem has a brass block with a steel baseplate. I've never compared directly with and apples to apples comparison.

Seems i started something here with brass hehe...

Thing is i dont really belive in anything else but steel for saddles. Tried tusq and graphite but steel sound the best to me. I just have this theory that the brass block might balance out better with the rest of the trem. Maybe im wrong.
