Bridge Bucker for swamp ash?

Mr 9finger

Digitally Challenged
Dual hum body, hipshot bridge. I've got a Jazz neck. Never used swamp ash before so I'm kind of baffled. Not shooting for any particular vibe. Just a good all around bucker. Medium output....NO JBs

a Custom or a Custom Custom would be nice and a 59 is another great choice!

Thanks for the input Christian, I have some concerns though.

59 to bassy?
CC not enuff bass and over powering mids?
Custom, over all a great pickup but compress' easily and possibly overpower the jazz?

Re: Bridge Bucker for swamp ash?

hmmm no JBs...how about a JBJ or a "The JB Model" < still trying to track one of those old school ones down. LOL.

anyway the CC may work well...even though the chart says it has low bass it's still fairly beefy and the mids fatten it up. however if thin or bright is a worry, you may have to look to the dark side and go dimarzio

Re: Bridge Bucker for swamp ash?

The Custom Custom won't have too much mids or too little bass. The tone bars are inaccurate. I suggest the CC for sure. Or take it down a notch and use the Alnico Pro II bridge.

Re: Bridge Bucker for swamp ash?

Order a '78 Model or a Brobucker from the Custom Shop. I bet the Brobucker would KILL in Swamp Ash.

If not the Custom Shop, then go with the CC for sure.

Re: Bridge Bucker for swamp ash?

Custom Custom - or the Alnico II Pro if you're looking for a lower output. Both really nice pickups.

Re: Bridge Bucker for swamp ash?

I did some magnet swappings with the Custom in my alder/maple strat. I ended with a Custom with a A3 magnet. Great harmonics and nice thick mids.

well, I wouln't put a 59 in the neck but in the bridge you should be fine and it will sound great with a Jazz, the CC has plenty of bass and while it is a mid heavy pickup it's not over bearing and actually sounds quite nice in swamp ash, The Custom does compress a bit (as does the CC) but I wouldn't worry about it overpowering the Jazz...to be honest I would try the 59. Do you want a vintage output pup or a hot(er) one?

And there is no need to go to DiMarzio...

swamp ash has a somewhat scoop tone and lots of pop. i suggest a middy humbucker to balance the frequency response. the cc as forum bros before me suggested, is a good choice.

either that or a custom with 250k vol pot to tame the sizzling highs. especially so if you are using an all maple neck.

Jackson J-90C...or, in case you can´t find one, a JB with a ceramic magnet instead of the piddly A5 ;)

Re: Bridge Bucker for swamp ash?

Custom with a jazz is a great idea and work well together!
