Bridge for 59 neck: the WLH or 59, or...?

Re: Bridge for 59 neck: the WLH or 59, or...?

@Karan - not so confused. Custom shop would be great but pricey I imagine and I'd have the same issue I'm having now. How to communicate sound.
@Blueman335 - well...10 years ago I went through about 12 pickups and a couple guitars and storebought amps looking for the sounds I wanted then. Built my own amps, swapped a lot of pups, did a ton of stuff on ebay and got audited by the IRS (they were nice and did not fine me for not declaring my 'income' from those sales, LOL). Now, looking for lower gain stuff, ebay isn't as fun anymore and neither is the IRS, and I don't have the time to try 12 pickups, so yeah, I know I can't see the settings and it's bad data, but it's data.
So, all that said, dealing withth e PAF pro for now but leaning toward a C5. Might try to snag one used on ebay, given time, should see one.

Well for starters, no it’s not that pricey as you’d think! It’s actually very affordable

I live in India and only spoke to them once. They’ll ask you your guitars weight, woods, finish and a bunch of questions on your setup and preferred sound. You’d think that someone couldn’t just work off that but believe me when I say that those guys really know what they’re doing. I had severe doubts it was gonna work out but they made something bang on! Not below or above expectations, but exactly as expected.

On a side note, I use a PRS too and I remember changing the wiring out because the capacitors were too bright for my taste and there were treble bleed resistors on there too. I don’t have first hand knowledge on what’s in SE guitars but on the Core single cut I assure you that the wiring definitely is bright as it can get

Good news, thanks for sharing. Maybe when my #1 greenlights a Les Paul or PRS Singlecut I'll ask them to do up a 'Peter Green' set ;-) BTW the SE has no treble bleed stuff going on. Pretty vanilla wiring, garden variety green foil caps. Very light guitar.

You want to find out the capacitance value. It’s probably letting more treble through than you want. Try a .22uf

LAte to the game it seems, but

1. I also find your ice-pick comment about the PAF Pro concerning. All of the pickups you are mentioning (except maybe the Wholelotta...don't know) have a "sharper" top/high end than that.

2. No 59/Customs, Custom 5's or anything like that! Some yahoo is gonna recommend a custom custom for the fat highs. It has monster mids....

I'm gonna go a very different route here. I'm thinking what you REALLY need is the right set of pots/caps/taper on a bridge tone control and stick with a 59.

Re: Bridge for 59 neck: the WLH or 59, or...?

To get away from a bright, thin PAF Pro, I would not get a '59B, '59/Custom, Custom 5, or 498T. They're all fairly bright and known for being light on mids.

With a PAF ('59) in the neck, I'd match it with another PAF in the bridge, like a Seth, WLH, or '59B with an UOA5. For me those are all rich and on the warmer side of PAF's bridges.

Re: Bridge for 59 neck: the WLH or 59, or...?

Alrighty then, I'll doublecheck the pots & caps - I think original from the PRS pickups that were in there originally. @KAran, are those the famously $$$ bumblebees? Also will scout out a 59B. Spent a lot recently on the strat so hoping to pick one up used. Thanks for the heads up on the C5 brightness.

Re: Bridge for 59 neck: the WLH or 59, or...?

To me the PAF PRO is unbeatable in a strat. The problem of brightness normally come up in HSS guitars because people set the bridge humbucker too low in an attempt to balance the output with single coils. If you raise the PAF PRO sufficiently the brightness issue generally goes away.

Instead of changing the humbucker you could possibly try a higher output neck pickup to solve the balance issue, such as Duncan Cool rails or a Satch Track - both will work. Of course its not really a strat sounding guitar anymore, so that may be a major consideration.

Actually the PAF pro is in my Tremonti SE. But good idea, I'll try playing with height. I have it about 6mm from strings

Organic pups beside the JB to me would be the 59/C hybrid or the Jason Becker. Plus several (all) of the vintage output ones obviously. Not many of the high output ones beside the JB are organic. The Alt 8 sounds the most organic to me.

That seems too low. I just measured the one in my Strat. I got around 2mm height for high e, also around 2mm space between the pole and the bottom of low e.
Also 4 of the poles have been raised/unscrewed by half a turn to adjust the string balance. Those are the 4 hex screws on the A and D poles.

Yep, they are. Worth the price when you engage your tone knob and ride it well
