Hmm, I wouldn't characterize the PB as a tamer JB; the JB's mids are much thicker than the PB's. The PB is kind of its own thing, a middle ground between the two dominant high-output camps; the classic mid-heavy "hot" coils like the JB and its descendants (Distortion, Nazghul), versus the scooped "PAF Plus" vein of the Customs.
+1 to the Screamin Demon, and even possibly the Perpetual Burn, which is like a tamer JB. It doesn't sound raspy at all.
