Bridge Humbucker for Strat, CC,C, JB, or 59, User's Help.

Re: Bridge Humbucker for Strat, CC,C, JB, or 59, User's Help.

OK guys,

I just finished cranking up the strat and LTD thru my Mesa.

The JB in the strat sounds awesome. Very clear and articulate, great harmonics and a smooth top end, probably because of the 250k pots. The Strat absoulutely kills in all positions. The JB sounds great split as well, still retains the quack. In a band situation this will be killer. I have the pu set pretty low to balance well with the sc's.

The LTD with the 59 seems more ballsy but not quite as sweet as the JB. The LTD has 500k pots so I dialed the tone down on the guitar which really helped. I may lower the pu more to see if that helps.

I also have a BBQ bucker on the way that I still might try in the LTD. But the JB is stayin. Great lead PU!!!!!!!

When you get that BBQ, it will work great with the stock 500k pots. You won't have to dial down the tone pot at all. It will be completely void of the frequencies you're trying to attenuate by lowering the pickup or tone knob right now. Great choice.

another question...

if i put a custom in the bridge of my swamp ash fat strat AND my mahogany bodied schecter, will it sound too similar? or will the difference in wood change the tone

Here's my Strat with a Custom Custom, Hot Stack and Cool Rails. I think I finally got it right. The CC is awesome in this guitar.

Not to anti-duncanize this thread, but it's my understanding that the DiMarzio Virtual PAF bridge in a strat will sound awsome and balance well with singles

The JB in mine leans more to the agressive side than the smooth side. Depends on the type of stuff you're playing.

The one in my kramer can be thin and harsh or thick and smooth depending on how high/low I set it.

I put it as close as it can get without hitting the strings and it sounds MASSIVE now and sings like a violin.

Had a custom in a les paul and it was great. What Lew said should be read carefully though, because he is correct. It has a LOT of balls and a LOT of punch. I would be concerned it would overpower my single coils if they are vintage strat style P'ups. I have a JB in my Fat Strat, and while its not my favorite pickup, it balances well with the singles, sounds fine w/ 250k pots, and it sounds good coil tapped. Its a great all-rounder.
