Bridge P-Rail, Only P90 Split?

Hello!

So, my problem is similar to the one found here: https://forum.seymourduncan.com/showthread.php?323401-P-Rail-and-HB-split-coil-help
But I like to think it's unique.

I've been thinking about this project for some time and finally had time to do it. I have a guitar with a JB/Jazz Seymour Duncan set and I'm not too fond of the JB, and I'd like a little something personal about the electronics.

My solution is to replace the JB with a P-Rails I took from another project, and I'll drop that in the bridge position. However, the P-Rails is pretty lame without the P90 function (I mean, it's the namesake), so I'm trying to figure out a way to put in a push/pull pot so I can split the P90 signal from the main one. I thought I had a way, and was tinning up my soldering iron but I figured I should double check before I have to redo everything.

I have planned to do something like this:

But... If possible I'd love to have the push/pull pot used for tone, most of all I'd like a second opinion on the wiring coming from the bridge pickup.

I don't want to split the neck, as I love the Jazz pickup. I also realize the strat "rail" takes up 80% of the name, but the P90 is 100% of what I care about in this project.

Thanks in advance!

PS: I heard a triple shot might be a good idea, and I'd appreciate any feedback from people with experience with triple shots. I think I'm keen to that idea.

The Triple Shot is a very elegant way to do this, and adds a few other options as well. I am having a little trouble making out the colors of the wires in your drawing, though...it might just be my monitor.

Re: Bridge P-Rail, Only P90 Split?

I'm doing something similar....only with the P-Rail in the neck. But just as you want (I think) is to have the P90 side on as the default. I think you need to tie the red and white together and wire it to the center post of the push/pull. Have nothing on the inner-most post of the push/pull. and then have the outermost post going to ground. This will let the white wire side of the pickup (in our case the P90 coil) be active when the push/pull is down. If you pull it up it will be both sides on in series (the rail side and the P90 side).

Ah, I think you're getting it.

Re: Bridge P-Rail, Only P90 Split?

I am an extreme fan of Triple Shot rings and have been using them since they first came out. This is a very simple and easy to use way to get everything out of your P-Rails...P-90, Rail, series humbucker, and parallel humbucker.

I agree with your sentiments that the P-90 is the best part of the pup and I use it at least 90% of the time. But the Rail comes in very handy when I need a more Straty tone. Occasionally the parallel has a beautiful and useful tone. Sometimes (rarely) I'll even use it in series (probably 1% or less).

Definitely get a Triple Shot ring to use with your P-Rails.

So what I gather is... The Triple Shot is super mighty and I should utilize that. Thanks for the help!
