Bridge pickup for PRS Hollowbody

Hello.

I have a Antiquity humbucker in my PRS hollowbody spruce(neck position).
There is still a PRS original in the bridge position, and I'd like to get something new that can suit the Antiquity.

Probably,a little hotter but still vitage kinda tone.(and nickel covered, hopefully)

I play jazz, blues, funk and R&B(but mostly JAZZ, using slight overdrive tone like Kurt Rosenwinkel style).
Honestly, cheaper one will be better if it's possible

Can you recommend me something?

Thanks,

Bolek

I'd seriously look at getting an Antiquity for the bridge. The bridge models are slightly hotter than the neck ones anyway. Plus, with the aged nickel cover, they will match better in the aesthetic department.

If you want something cheaper than the Antiquity, then look at some of the other PAF type pickups Duncan has. I'm a fan of the Pearly Gates myself. And it's hard to go wrong with a 59 in the bridge. You don't get much cheaper than a 59.

Welcome to the forum!

Travis is spot on with his analysis, the Antiquity Bridge will be slightly hotter than the neck, and will match better with the aged neck pup as well. If you have replaced the cover on the neck for a non-aged one and that's not an issue you can get any Duncan with a cover.

For PAF sound in a non-antiquity context I'd go with the Alnico 2 Pro it has great string to string response and is very warm primarily due to its A2 mag.

You could try the Jazz bridge for a pup with a PAF style tone but a bit more modern. It is articulate and pronounced no matter how you are tuned. I have a jazz neck and it is everything a neck pup should be.

If you want vintage type tone with a kick in the pants in the output department check out the Custom Custom. It has a large mid spike which lends itself to being heard during solos and its warmness help out the archtop's maple construction.

Hope that helps man! Again, welcome to the forum!

Re: Bridge pickup for PRS Hollowbody

Thank you for your comments, Travis and Luke!!

Actually I was thinking about a 59, an Alnico2 pro, a JB.
I think I want something that is more powerful than an Antiqity bridge.
Because when I usually switch pickups during a song,I always want a little distortion from a bridge pickup. A PRS original should be hotter than the Antiquity technically(MAYBE, I'm not sure though).

I'm little bit afraid if a 59 and an Alnico2 pro are not enough powerful for my need, or an JB is hotter than I expect(But an Jazz and an JB are one of the best output combinations, right?)

It's good that you recommended an Custom Custom, yes I want something that can tame a brightness.

Any suggestions?

Thank you VERY MUCH(I was very happy that you reacted my post!!).

Re: Bridge pickup for PRS Hollowbody

Bolek, that was my concern as well with the Jazz having a very close DC resistance but the A2P came through for me, also the antiquity will not has as strong a magnet due to the degaussing and will not create as strong a signal as the exact same pup with a full strength mag. Jeremy one of the Admins. has a 10K bridge with a full strength mag and loves it. OHH and yest the Jazz JB is a very good combo, it's what I started with but I ditched the JB for the A2P and can't tell a whole lot of difference when it comes to how hard it drives my amp. (Dr. Z Maz Jr)

The Custom Custom would probably be your best bet, it is a great pup to tame highs and brightness. When I eventually order my Heritage 535 I'm going to go with the A2P and CC. I really like the Alnico 2 magnets. They also have less string pull resulting in a free-er moving string and generally a tiny bit more sustain.

Any Seymour Duncan can also be ordered with a 4 conductor lead for lots of wiring possibilities, which PRS rotary switch fans love.

Hope that helps!

Re: Bridge pickup for PRS Hollowbody

Thanks, Luke.

I probably will get a Custom Custom, but is there covered version?
I prefer nickel covered one, and I have seen only a 59, Jazz, Alnico2 pro, Perly gates and JB are avairable as covered versions.

Or I just missed?

Anyway,

Thank you VERY much for your help!!

Re: Bridge pickup for PRS Hollowbody

Bolek, All traditional polepiece/slug Duncans can be ordered with a nickel cover. I had to order both my Jazz and my A2P with covers b/c they were dbl. creme bobbins underneath. :32: The pups will be aobut $15 more a piece. Any knowledgeable dealer will be able to help you out with that, here on the forum we have 2 dealers who post, you can look at their websites.
