Bridge pickup for Tele?

Need help. I've installed a Seth Lover at the neck on my Tele. Now I need a bridge pup to go with it for Country and Blues. It's a G&L Bluesboy and originally came with a bucker so I don't think I need to worry about changing the wiring etc. I'd like to stay with Duncan but open to suggestions.

Re: Bridge pickup for Tele?

jd is a great tele pup that can cover lots of ground. decent output and not too thin or shrill but still sounds like a tele bridge pup

I've always wanted to try one of those. On paper it looks like the perfect tele pickup.

Re: Bridge pickup for Tele?

+1 for JD. It has decent output to be paired with hb, mini or P-90 and goes well with 500ks. Some tele players accustomed to '60s tele tone might not like it because they would think the high is too round.

Re: Bridge pickup for Tele?

if youre open to something other than duncans check out cavalier pickups. I bought one for a tele and really loved it. I have the fat lion.

Re: Bridge pickup for Tele?

JD equals Jerry Donohue model? Great pickup. So is the standard Alnico II Pro it's based on. I have both versions.

I've got a set of Alnico II Pros in my other Tele and like them a lot. What difference do you hear between the two?

Re: Bridge pickup for Tele?

The JD is a single coil pup. You say your guitar came with a bucker in the bridge?! (I thought the G&L Bluesboy came with a single coil in the bridge).

However, if your guitar had a bucker in the bridge, if you go with the JD (which is an excellent choice, by the way), you will need a new bridge plate also.

Re: Bridge pickup for Tele?

I think the OP meant that it came with a humbucker in the neck so there would be no need to change the wiring due to installing the Seth Lover (replacing bridge single coil with another bridge single coil and neck HB with a neck HB).

Re: Bridge pickup for Tele?

Wow, I certainly didn't get that. While that makes sense, his op was really vague (not even ambiguous) about it.

Oh, how I love clarity.

I never said it had a humbucker at the bridge. You came up with that. You made an honest mistake. No big deal. Just pony up and stop blaming me.

Personally I really dig the A2Pro set, but the A2Pro set with the Jerry Donohue sounds fabulous in my Fender Nashville Tele and is slightly more powerful. I think the standard A2Pro set is totally awesome though, in itself.

I have this telecaster right next to me right now but I'm playing my PRS black flame SE Tremonti Custom and my Gibson fifties P90's, vintage burst Tribute; both great guitars.

The Tremonti Custom has an awesome crystal clarity not usually associated with full size humbuckers and the P90 Gibson can also be crystal clear. Starting with a crystal clear sound and adding reverb and overdrive really results in a great tone.

Re: Bridge pickup for Tele?

^^Thanks for the info. I've been considering the A2Pro since it's a known quantity to me and I like it a lot. The JD also interests me because I've posted this on several forums and lots of people are recommending it for pairing with the Seth Lover. I'm still thinking about it but I'm getting the sense that I can't go very far wrong with either.

True. The regular A2Pro set is totally great.
