Hi, I'm new to the forum. I just got an 'upgraded' MIM Fender Toronado I picked up off the evilBay, and the poor thing is a mess, wiring-wise, and pickup-matching-wise as well. It's got the original Fender humbucker in the bridge (an Atomic, I believe), and a DiMarzio Air Norton in the neck. The Air Norton seems to overpower the stock bridge pickup, tho it's a little hard to tell with the jumbled wiring, and I'm thinking about upgrading the bridge to an SD Invader.
I play noisy, distorted, kind murky blues-punk... Would these two pickups be a good match? I'd like to get a pair of pickups that really slam tubes into distorto.
Since I've got to replace the solder-covered pots as well, I was going to put 500k's in to brighten the darker-sounding pickups a bit when needed, and get pull switches for getting single coil sounds out of both of the pickups.
So, Invader, yah? Or go with another fine SD pickup? Thanks.
